100% correct IMO.

It's not just National Leagues though - we have season tickets for Pirates Amateurs (£40 for the season this year) and it's a good standard of rugby played by a team almost exclusively composed of local boys who have come through the Penzance and Newlyn RFC minis, juniors and Colts. Plenty of local derbies too. Proper grass roots rugby.

I agree. My definition for credible rugby would be National League downwards.

Because you’ve criticised clubs (unnamed) for “excessive “ use of D/Rs and loanees without quantifying what you mean.

Thought I was having a pop at the RM users who had a go at London Scottish for their links with Quins when other clubs in the championship use the DR/loan system just as much and with similar numbers.

I think  fielding 10 loaners/DRs is too much

Two are too many IMO. Yes, my opinion.
(I know Cov had two loaners last term, but they were at least signed to contracts at the end of the season, so that's something).

I seem to have pushed some buttons here - sorry Confused

As it happens, my personal opinion is that players should be paid up subscribing club members. However, I know that D/R and Loan players are within the current playing arena.

To be honest though not all clubs are lucky enough to be rich full timers. Some clubs can only afford to operate on narrow squads so if say a front row gets injured then borrowing a player might be the only option they have.

And that's absolutely fine. I see no issue in emergency loans.
It's the wholesale drafting in of DRs/loaners I can't get.

The rule in the Championship is up to 13 Academy/DR's/ Loans in the match day squad. However it does compromise Club Identity unless all you want is to get promoted. However I question the rationale, for example how does London Scottish consider the possibility of promotion when they are effectively supported by Harlequins and this goes for a number of other Championship clubs.
I believe that one of the Criteria for Prem 2 is for clubs to demonstrate that they are aspirational, presumably this means "Wanting to be promoted"

And if say if you "borrow" players from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Ospreys or another URC club (as they're from another union they have to be "temporarily" fully registered as you can't loan between unions)
it is perfectly possible to field a full starting 15 and even a full squad of 23  and not use any of your own players- although the latter has not yet been done- I think.

Halfway though last season LS were averaging 12 DR's/Loans per game so I guess that's too many......

Curious to see the Caldy supporting crew now wading into the bash LS, when the club have operated fully within the rules established by the RFU.

Maybe it would reflect better on their club, if they had been present and vocal when their former Head Coach was named and shamed as an abuser of RFU match officials and correctly banned for too short a period, completely contrary to RFU rules.

Where’s Big Eddie who was such an advocate of the so called “village club” in his heyday? Never a word out of him to condone the actions of the Caldy Head Coach.

Mean while back on topic and in the real world both Cambridge & Chinnor will not participate in the Championship Cup this season.

Wow! Big Eddie has been laid low for several weeks by his 5th bout of Covid that is where he has been,

However, I am surprised that Exiled Scots expected me to have condoned the incident he refers to. Why would I ever do that ??

I wasn't at the game when the incident occurred but I did receive another side of the unedifying story which did somewhat explain to me how and why this out of character episode occurred.

This all occurred last season and Caldy's Head Coach has now served his full RFU punishment.

Just resurrecting this thread- I’ve just bought my ticket for Nottingham v Northampton at Franklin’s Gardens and it was £45!!! I thought that was a tad excessive for what is essentially going to be a Northampton reserves team!!! However I wasn’t missing this particular game for the world so I paid it but I have to say I was pretty surprised.

We have just got tickets for the Pirates game at Kingsholm. Accessible seats are £56, but we do get two for that as one is for a helper. Our abled bodied friends wanted to sit near us, so got the tickets for the seats just behind us. They are £56 plus you get charged a booking fee for each ticket!
To put it into context, we have recently bought season tickets for Pirates Amateurs which are £40 for the season!

Thankfully I don’t drive so will be going by public transport! But my other half, who works in Northampton tells me the parking is a nightmare.

Although I am disappointed for Chinnor and Cambridge, I will admit that I'm getting excited for the cup. I'm a bit disappointed that good seats for our game at the Stoop are £40 each, but hopefully that means they intend to put out a reasonable team. Considering the close geographical proximity of Quins and Sarries, I'd hope that we could get at least a crowd of 2500 for each match (fingers crossed for more), which would be an extra c.£100k for the club (providing there isn't some unfair revenue sharing) compared to a sphazelnutly attended champ cup match.
