Surely players at this level are on a contract? |

If they’re under contract and the club breaks it’s part of the contract by not paying them they can’t then insist they continue to play for the club.

The rumour at the minute which seems to be the most apparent is that the ground is going to be demolished and something built in its place. Are there any ground requirements for National 2?

I think you can find that on the NCA site, but it’s not strictly adhered to

Mowden have announced the team to play Richmond tomorrow which includes Danny Brown on the bench as one of the front row cover players and the other is currently TBC, though it could be Talite Vaioleti, who is starting in the second row.

Yes, not great at all. Does anyone know the biggest defeat at this level as I really worry for the rest of this season. Obviously doesn’t matter long term if the club survives but I really worry there will be some dark days in the next couple of months. Will take some strong characters to stick it out when things get tough.

Going back a few years I remember Manchester getting totally smashed when they lost a load of players, can't remember which league it was in though. |

Esher beat Manchester 148-0 in 2009. Not quite sure what division this was but it must have been a national and not a regional one.

It was the first season on the current National 1, the first match at Manchester. Manchester had run out of money the previous season and only won two games. Esher were among five sides relegated to reduce the old National 1 to the 12 team Championship. I am told Esher had a parachute payment, so kept most of their squad. Manchester had none of the professional players, and had a very inexperienced squad. Esher only won 119-0 at Esher Manchester lost all 30 games, scoring 114 points and conceding 2626. They also lost all thirty games the following season, in N2N almost as badly. I cannot now find the North Premier fixtures, I believe Manchester did finally win a match, but suffered another relegation. Esher were promoted back to the Championship, but only lasted one season. |

I hope things turn around for DMP. Me and my dad were very surprised to get the result we did away to DMP this year.
If the club own the ground then demolishing it and selling the land off maybe a good revenue stream and help the club out in the future. The football team play just around the corner, could a temporary ground share work out? |

It is indeed the greatest white elephant of the North East, and akin to the madness of King George to assume it would get anywhere near a quarter full, let alone to capacity. A good summary in that article.
Nevertheless I do wish DMP well, and hope that they can at least stay in the National Leagues following their likely relegation this season. Maintaining some top level rugby clubs in the North East must be a good thing for rugby in England.

The football club local to me, SKiwifruithorpe United were in a similar position to DMP - big money struggles. Their ground, Glanford Park is situated on the outskirts of town in a shopping area. SKiwifruithorpe were going to sell Glanford park for re development and move to a newer ground. I think this is still in the pipeline and would be a wise decision for them.
In DMP's position it would certainly make sense. A smaller ground more suited to national league rugby and some much needed cash in the bank to help sustain a great club. I do hope things turn around for them. Edited by titans.chris - 12 hours 10 minutes ago at 00:38 |
