Why on earth are the Boxing Day fixtures not local derbies? It seems madness to see Doncaster traveling to London whilst at the same time Richmond will pass the Donny bus on the other side of the M1 as they travel to Nottingham. How come Ealing get Xmas off yet Jersey have to fly in-possibly on Xmas Day night - to Bedford? Ridiculous.

You can never please all teams. Everybody would want a home game?

Presumably Jersey would have the bye as they have no near neighbours and because of travelling difficulties?

Yes, no obvious local derby for the Reds, although Guernsey were doing well at level 4 prior to a recent wobble...

No flights in/out of Jersey on Xmas Day, squad will fly on match day.

Hartpury v Pirates is kind of a 'nearest club' (for the hosts) derby, while Cov/Ampthill are reasonably close... maybe you could have swapped the pairings in the other 2 games to have Mond/Exiles & Nott/Donny

As N2 don't play over Christmas/ New Year it would have been the ideal time to play your Mickey Mouse Cup (apologies, interIsland Trophy game)

Well if we have 14 teams next year,  might get a few more local derbies.

Although, as was pointed out to me, Bedford v Jersey will get a bumper crowd. As will Bedford v Ampthill 15th January.
The older I get, the more the RFU leave me confused.

Trophy CC, second oldest trophy. The contest is relatively new in rugby terms. But it was an amazing win for the Reds as an amateur side against a team full of semi-pro’s, on their own patch, when our 1st team had a home game. Immense defense throughout

Fully agree mate one of the most competitive games I've watched in years - neither side gave an inch for the entire match and took no prisoners. I'd much rather see two evenly matched sides and a game that could go either way like that rather than a mismatch and a cricket score which one side wins easily.
Dont kick it. Pick it up and GO FORWARD.

The Boxing Day Blues match is almost a sell out was just 300 tickets left yesterday and a reduced capacity of 4,500 crowd with everyone requiring COVID passes.

It is £8 to watch from home https://bedfordrugby.co.uk/news/2021/12/live-stream-blues-v-reds-boxing-day which seems a bargain and an opportunity for Jersey fans to still be able to watch.

Tickets for Boxing day Blues v Reds seem almost all sold, great news for Bedford but shame as I'd like to have gone as will only be 40 miles away. With two postponements today and cases rising all over the place, hope it still go ahead.......

Here is hoping these games go ahead, don’t need anything to fuel the RFU agenda

A great effort, I would attend if I lived a bit closer, however A train yup through London given its high Covid rates is not on my agenda. (Part of the reason I didn't go to Westcliff last week)

I agree with Marigold that the RFU fixture secretary, or whoever dreams up the fixture dates, must live on a different planet. There appears to have been no thought whatsoever when lining up the fixtures for Boxing Day and New Years Day. And then they leave the following weekend totally blank!

Having said that, I really do fear for all these fixtures, especially at the likes of Bedford who will have 4,500 crammed in. I fear COVID will have its say. This will be such a shame as the Boxing Day atmostphere at Goldington Road is hard to beat. I was last there a couple of years back when they played Ampthill..... in a friendly. 5,000 spectators watched Ampthill eek out a narrow win. A terrific day.
Always trying to stay bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

Is this where we post our predictions?

Coventry 1-4 Ampthill. I don't think the As have ever won at Coventry, but I think the home team's injury problems presents Ampthill with their best chance ever.
Bedford 5-2 Jersey. This is the pick of the day. If the weather is sunny, 4,500 fans should see a feast of 15 man rugby, with the home side winning a high scoring match.
London Scottish 1-4 Doncaster. Doncaster are not so strong when they travel but I expect them to pull away in the last quarter.
Nottingham 4-1 Richmond. This is the hardest one to predict but I am going for Nottingham to grind out a win.
Cornish Pirates 4-1 Hartpury College. I wasn't overly impressed with the Pirates performance when they recently beat Ampthill but I think on their own patch they will have just enough to better the Hartpury mercenaries.
Always trying to stay bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

Coventry 4-1 Ampthill. two well matched sides I expect a handful of points in it either way.
Bedford 3-3 Jersey. 28 points all would be good although in my dreams Blues miss a conversion and Jersey win by 2 points.
Scottish 1-4 Donny This could go either way Exiles defence and starting forwards were totally committed at St Peter.
Nottingham 4-1 Mond Should be a great contest but I just go for a home win by under 5 points
Pirates 5-0 Pury - Pirates to claim top of the league spot at New Year - no pressure lads

Coventry 2 - 2 Ampthill. Going for a draw just because I cannot decide either way
Bedford 5 - 2 Jersey. bedford gain advantage with the slope a high scoring display on the books
Scottish 0 - 5 Knights The Donny lads starting to gel and work their magic
Nottingham 4 - 1 Tight game, home advantage takes the call
Pirates 5 - 1 Hartpury I think this is a tough game if Pury takes the loan players with them.

Can I take this opportunity to wish you all a Very Merry Xmas and a Healthy New Year
Onward and Upwards C'mon Donny!
