I am really struggling. England play a team miles down the pecking order at home and we constantly kick the ball away in the last third of the game. Great we can score from rolling mauls but what happens when NZ, SA, and Argentina stop these. The game is won by half time and yet E insists on giving even more game time to the likes of Youngs, George, Itoji, Farrell and spurning the chance to build up the minutes for those players who may well be needed in the future. Is he the Boycott of coaches-simply worried about his own stats?

Firstly, Georgia are not 'miles down the pecking order' they are actually 2 places ahead of tier 1 Italy. As for your opinion on the game you could take the view that Jones deliberately chose to take Georgia on in the scrum and maul in the first half knowing this was the one area where they are world class. I presume you failed to realise the torrential shower at half time which turned the second half into a lottery where running rugby was concerned. Give him a break 6 tries and no points conceded what more do you want. |

Raider you may have a fair point about the half time weather -although we do have to play in the rain in this country- but for the second match in a row against non top flight opposition we have kicked the ball away in the first half when tries through handling were on offer. Is this why when the rare opportunities appear we are so poor at converting them as was the case yestrday? Playing the percentage game against the likes of Italy and Georgia will illicit a victory but will simply not be enough when a different way to win is required ie the recent World Cup Final. Being four tries up at half time and with the game won I would definitely expect more than 2 scores in the remaining 40 minutes against a severely tiring opposition-otherwise what is the point of tiring them? I note you have no riposte regarding the failure to give vital game time to players who may well have need of it in future more important matches. Sadly this will come back and bite England.

I didn't think that point was worth answering - there were a number of players in the starting 15 who would not be considered first choices. |

I guess we may not fully appreciate how good a job England did (or didn't) do against Georgia until the Lelos have locked horns with Ireland and Wales...

Marigold - did you watch a different World Cup final than everybody else? . South Africa took us on up front and absolutely battered us - men against boys was a term used at the time I believe. That said I absolutely detest this box kick bingo approach mixed in with a decent helping of "drive-back" as we used to call it. Monotonous, boring, dull, pointless, clueless, doesn't do our game any favours and it seems to be run of the mill for most of the Northern Hemisphere sides - you don't see half as much of it in the Rugby Championship and the games are all the more richer and more exciting to watch as a result.

I did notice that England were afraid of the Georgian maul at the line out and resorted to arriving late, standing well behind the mark and throwing to the front of the line and relying on the fact that the ref would let them get away with it. Frankly I would have called them for not straight and would have called it a penalty for the deliberate offence.

Agreed, it is very difficult to win a game if you are not winning the forward battle. That's why rugby is a better game than football. |

I do think that playing Joseph on the wing was a little short sighted when they are so many up and coming youngsters they could be blooding in.
Also it would of been great to see Dombrant start at 8, in addition the game could of been used to see who is going to be the first choice partner of Itoje in 2nd row, Hill and Ewells starting with Launchbury and Isiekwe getting some game time also. Ben Curry could of made up one of the most mobile back rows we have seen in recent years. Then I say with some reluctance as George played phenomenally but this was the game for Cowen-Dickie to start with Genge and Sincler in front row, show that we have more than Mako who is world class at prop. Finally surely Robson or Spencer should of been given a full game at 9.

I agree with the comment about Joseph on the wing - would have been better to give Thorley a start. Also would like to see Dombrandt get a go - has he upset Eddie somehow, as most people consider him to be the understudy to Billy V., but he never gets picked. We saw Hill in the game against Italy, Ewells started this game. Genge and Stuart started at prop - hardly our first choice, although both did well against a side regarded as one of the best at scrummaging in the world. You are more or less describing an 'A' team - maybe the 'A' internationals should be resurrected, then we can see if any of the newcomers is up to it rather than hand them a full cap? I'd really like to see Dombrandt given a go, but I think Eddie Jones's whole mindset is 'I'll pick him when I want to pick him, not when the press or fans insist I do'. He likes to go with the unexpected or unconventional and keep everyone guessing. Not a bad thing, and certainly not a criticisim, just a bit frustrating sometimes

Yes but most players tend to rate a coach who picks them I find.
