Full Time 19 All. No radio commentary but from the Twitter reports it came over as a cracking match - well played both teams.

Trailfinders starting XV –

Very pleased with this side. Gets several long term injured such as Korzyk and Maddison back into the squad, while giving so.e young lads a run out. Surprised to see Charlie Walker playing, as I thought he had quietly exited the squad.

Cornish Pirates v Bedford

I hope the RFU see the attendances and realise how shocking this cup is.

14 teams next year in the league might be the best solution…or better 16 like Pro2 in France.
The older I get, the more the RFU leave me confused.

Wow. And to think I was mildly miffed at last week's BPA turnout.

or stick with 12 competitive teams PLUS a proper cup competition involving the better Scots, Irish, Welsh & if possible French D2 Clubs.
Dont kick it. Pick it up and GO FORWARD.

Went to the game at Castle Park today and Coventry were excellent for the vast majority of the match. Donny were comprehensively outplayed in the first half - we did better in the second half but on the whole Coventry’s defence was excellent and didn’t give us many chances. I think a 13 point margin is about right. On a bright and sunny day only 610 people turned up which probably tells you all you need to know about the cup. 14 team league next season please….

P.S. Well done to Coventry fans, there was a very good and vocal away following today, particularly as it was a cup match.

Pirates 38 Bedford 37
A last minute converted try gives the pirates a one point advantage to take into next weeks 2nd leg.
Although there is a lot going on in Cornwall this weekend with the annual gig rowing championships on the Isles of Scilly and Cornwall were playing a Crawshays Welsh XV in Camborne this afternoon it was a very disappointing crowd and I can't remember the last time the pirates played before a crowd that was less than a thousand.

Whilst the crowd numbers show what most people think, the competitiveness of the matches is top notch.  Each game is finely balanced and you can imagine the second legs are going to be immense.  Clearly each club is targeting a big end to the season and won't be holding back.  Some fantastic rugby to come next weekend.  The teams deserve the support and hopefully more will get out there. Looking forward to some real close games and one or two surprises.

Very sad to say that it looks like Adam Korzyk has a fairly serious leg injury 15 minutes into his comeback game after a year off. Feel terrible for him.

Well, with Bedford and Cov at home it surely won't be worse.

Thanks for the gracious comments regarding Coventry. I had to miss this match (and the return fixture next week) due to non-rugby commitments, but the last few matches, with a number of long-term injury-affected players returning are, I think, showing how Coventry could have played this season had luck been on their side

Hoping it's as good a game next week for the return fixture.
