So the Championship is getting £9million.  £750k per club I guess although whether that will be split more on crowds sizes I guess details will be announced.

Premiership get £59million and below Championship £23million.

Forgot to mention that I saw the support in general mainly consisted of loans (not sure about the split though)!  Not sure any Championship club wants a loan to replace income.

Hopefully they follow in football’s footsteps and do the logical thing and split by attendance. Good news either way

This will certainly keep the clubs afloat for now and is the best news that we have heard this year.
Presumably the RFU will keep the rest against list revenues from international matches.
For once that seems fair, as long as it is on top of the usual funding for Championship clubs and not instead of.

£9 million between 12 clubs seems over-generous to me.

If you consider sponsorship, gate receipts, hospitality plus beer/snack sales on match day over the season I would suggest that 750k is short of the mark, but if it is shared as equally as possible, then I for one am delighted by the sun involved. However, the RFU money really needs to be in top of this funding for clubs to be anywhere near square for the year.

The government said the Sports Winter Survival Package, which will be largely composed of low-interest loans, will support rugby union, horse racing, women's football and the lower tiers of the National League. It added that rugby league, motorsport, tennis, netball, basketball, ice hockey, badminton and greyhound racing were also in line to benefit.

Sports minister Nigel Huddleston added that grants would be available where organisations were unable to repay loans. He also said "the door was open" to any sport requiring funding, including cricket which was not on the initial list.

The money available is for sports in England, with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland responsible for their own budgets.

Quite (hello again everyone, I've now got a 1 after my name as suddenly, after 8 years, the site decided it didn't have any record of me....)

This might keep some clubs alive, which is obviously good, but AIUI the total sum is a mix of grants and loans with the majority in the form of loans. Indeed, Mr Sweeney has said tht the RFU will have to decide (with the government) what mix of loans and grants to make available to what levels. 

When the RFL did this with govt money earlier in the year and the clubs realised what they were actually being offered a good number decided they'd rather make the cuts than take on the debt...

It is *not* free money.

actually, apologies for the off-topic posting but now I am back please could you look into this Mr Lowther as obviously I'd rather be me with my own account - the site login was saying no record of my username or password for the last months?
