There is much anticipation at Paton Field as Caldy look to win the first silverish trophy of the season which they will contest for against Luctonians.
The "Hub Cap Trophy" has been fought over during meetings between the clubs ever since scurrilous remarks from the visitors from Herefordshire suggested that the nature of Merseyside was such that without expensive surveillance from the resident scallies, visitors' cars were almost certain to be relieved of their Hub Caps. This urban myth was a slight on Caldy and all associated with the club and caused deep and prolonged offence. One of Caldy's most influential members, Derek Salisbury, explained how such offensive stereotyping from amongst the Rugby Family was distressing and unwarranted. "Spouting this kind of guff is just plain wrong. Why would anyone would want to pinch hub caps is beyond me. It just doesn't happen, most people on Merseyside wouldn't be seen dead with hub caps on their Range Rovers, a good set of alloys is what makes the car pop and they have a far better resale value. Barry has a beautiful and very desirable set of highly polished black alloys on his Range Rover which would command a decent price but of course Barry has the muscle around him to provide the 24/7 cover he expects" When asked if that mean't the visitors from Luctonia could park safely on Saturday without fear of being hub less or wheel less come early evening, Derek Salisbury was less committal. "If they want peace of mind they need to see Barry and if he gives them the nod they should be alright, it shouldn't cost them too much. If they are farmers a side of beef will probably cover them all."

There is nothing wrong with a little bit of nastiness now and again, but Welsh nastiness is unheard of. Our friends from Luctonia will be able to sit in their Ranger Rovers and look at God's own country across the River Dee. If they need a bit more elevation a few of Merseyside's best will chock up their Range Rovers with a couple more bricks under each axle

We did have to explain to the men for Luctonia that there is a difference between Merseyside and Wirral. On Merseyside when they take wheels they jack the car up on Bricks but on the Wirral they will still steal your wheels but they Jack the car up on Encyclopedia Brittanica

Luctonia is a nice place to visit and they have always treated us so well when we travelled to their particular part of the world. Truly the warmth of the welcome we always receive in Luctonia is one of the best things about finding ourselves back amongst such friends in National 2 North .
Luncheon in Luctonia is special and ever so cordial and friendly. Such a convivial atmosphere and just splendid fare with a massive joint of meat and all the theatre surrounding the tableside carving. It is a joy. To add to the occasion there is often a professional comedian to entertain us during luncheon with memorable jokes about 'soft hands' and Fatima Whitbread. Just brilliant. Of course for every meal at the 'Ritz' there are millions of Pot Noodles consumed by those less fortunate. If the water is warm enough most of the 'bits' will soften up and I can imagine stirring energetically with our new eco friendly wooden spatulas could create a bit of theatre. Fortunately we can do a little bit of one upmanship when it comes to comedians.....we have two in house professionals. Roger and Graham over to you........................

According to the Caldy website there will be 150 people attending for lunch on Saturday...........that is a lot of Pot Noodle.............and a lot of people for the Caldy comedians to entertain.
No heckling please as even very witty remarks are likely to go right over the heads of Roger and Graham. |

Great to see our friends from Luctonians today and although it was a good performance from Caldy to retain the hub cap trophy Lucs stuck at it and they are a decent side. When a side coming down from Nat 1 meets a side coming up from level 5 there is likely to be a mismatch in execution and experience.
Unfortunately that was what befell Lucs today, it has happened to Caldy in the past. Lucs will do ok this season
