Scottish Super Series disbanded

Saw this headline today, and thought that it was somewhat interesting in light of what is going on in English Rugby. Scotland seems to think that it can't even support 6 semi-pro teams, and wasn't getting value from them. I believe that many of their matches were also televised.

Saw a Super six game last September. One of the Franchises was a Scotland development team, one(Southern knights) was a Borders Franchise playing out of Melrose. The rest were club based I believe (Watsonians, Ayr etc). The guy who was explaining it to me said it wouldn’t work as the Borders were so parochial they wouldn’t travel between the towns to watch them and the franchise had no chance of getting the best players from the borders as they would only play for their Borders town

The original Super Six teams were all franchises based on club grounds. The only difference between the franchises at Melrose and those at Boroughmuir, Watsonians, Stirling, Heriot's and Ayr was that the Melrose based one chose a neutral name (Southern Knights) whereas the others had variations of the names of the clubs on whose ground they played. For the most recent competition the Melrose-based Knights signed Chris Bell (Gala) and Monroe Job (Selkirk) to join fellow former Borderers Anderson, Borthwick, Rutherford and Wilson (all ex-Gala), Greer and Sutherland (ex-Hawick) and Cottrell (ex-Selkirk). I hesitate to say the guy explaining it to you didn't know what he was talking about but .....

No-one it seems have grasped the reality that no-one in the borders will support another club/franchise that is not their town team. The Border Reivers was another failed example of lack of any knowledge as to what exists. It perfectly highlights the total lack of any planning or understanding of the game in Scotland by the SRFU, we think the English RFU is living on another planet, well the Murrayfield lot are not even in the same Universe.
