I thought I would tidy up all the board rules, important messages, contact details into one thread.

This message board is not moderated in real time. If you notice a message to which you object, please notify us and this will be looked at as soon as reasonably possible.

You can contact me - Richard Lowther  at tackler 7 at yahoo dot com
(Please ensure you omit any spaces and replace at with @)

There are rules to using this board. Please abide by them at all times. If you don't like them, please do not post.

Use of this message board implies your acceptance of the following terms and conditions of use -

·           You will not post any messages likely to cause offence. (Don't be abusive. Criticism is fine, abuse isn't. Don't say things about others that you wouldn't like saying about you. Do not try and 'out' the identity of any poster. There are also the 'in jokes' or what I call the 'nudge' which are comments made in jest by the poster and may be totally innocent comments that amongst friends would generate a laugh and quickly be forgotten about.  However on message boards, they can be clearly misinterpretated and cause offence. I have probably had more complaints about this type of post, then any other.  So just think about what you are saying and how you say it. If in doubt, don't post it.)

Although I understand the desire to dissuade swearing on this forum, can't something be done so we can see the name of Mowden's latest signing without it being changed to incorporate a type of small fruit?

The forum rules forbid the use of swear words, so as everyone has agreed to obey them, is a 'swear filter' which changes common surnames really necessary?

No, it's not necessary.
A simple warning/ ban system would suffice, but Richard would probably argue that as it's not moderated in real time, that woulb be difficult and potentially leave obscenities hanging for unacceptable lengths of time, which is somewhat understandable.
However, if a reporting system for offenders was encouraged, this should overcome most issues.
The daft thing though, as alluded to elsewhere, is the banning of words/names that merely contain strings that include such things as descriptors for male hens and so on.
Clearly ridiculous, and deisrespectful to many who play and have played the game (even a particular former Cov and Leicester hooker - although I'm inclined to allow that one 😉).
A certain club in the east of the country gets a very bad deal too - and let's face it, it's probably a good job that many villages around Dorset etc don't have NL rugby teams...

You could always circumvent the filters by using an accented letter; ù in place of u, ô in place of o, etc.

The board rules say that you're not allowed to swear, which should be enough. As the form doesn't allow rude words (changing the F word to banana, for example) the rule about not swearing is unnecessary.

Most people who watch rugby, whether on TV or in person, will be well used to hearing 'colourful language' and would be responsible enough not to use it offensively in posts here.

In my opinion, having players, coaches, and place names changed seems unnecessary and even disrespectful.

The problem really comes when it's overactive and censored innocent words like SKiwifruithorpe  or pawpawake

It is there for a number of reasons which override the odd exception of genuine use.

The board isn't moderated in real time for a start, so anything which stops offensive posts (and not just swearing) is better than leaving the 'bad' word on display.

Secondly, more people complaining about swearing, than anything else, even the incompetence of the the RFU (!) , so anything to assure them saves me time and stress!

Yes people will always try and avoid the filters and if you want to do this to avoid a good word being mistaken for a bad word, then that is alright, but any misuse just to swear or cause trouble isn't acceptable.

Even if the board is not moderated in real time, it should be easy for you to find and discipline people we are breaking the rules they agreed to, editing/deleting posts which have been flagged and issuing appropriate infractions.

I'm confused that people would complain about swearing when, as has been illustrated above, the text replacement tool filter makes it impossible.

Often you can on these type of boards set up conditional rules so those with over X posts have different restrictions to those new.

Not sure if that includes the swearymary filter
