Cannot find anywhere in SE London where vaccinations are available to the general public after 8pm. If the Prem and Champ clubs paid for medical staff to stay on an extra 2 hours each night for a week at 8 centres nationally this would be more than enough capacity to vaccinate all elite players and staff. 3 weeks later clubs could train/play with a hugely reduced risk of covid being contracted/spread so games not lost. The need for expensive PCR weekly testing would be removed and could be replaced by the much cheaper ( a 10th of the price) lateral flow testing thus reducing the chance of some Prem and a larger number of Champ clubs going under. Players are deemed already by the government to be different to others ie they can continue to train-surely this is just a logical extension?

The vaccine is a finite resource at the moment. So who are you going to push down the ladder so elite payers can move up it?

I also wouldn’t condone prioritising the programme
I’ll leave that up to all the medical experts and the government

Sorry but why should elite sportsman get the vaccine ahead of teachers, or the over 60s who are far more likely to get a worse case of the virus. Everyday you hear another group claiming they should be a priority. There is a plan for a reason

I quite agree - Elite Sportsmen are well paid for the job they chose to do, they also seem to think the Covid rules don't apply to them, so why shoukd they jump the queue.

The vaccination groups were devised for a reason - to protect the most vulnerable and people should respect that

I was not and would not suggest sportsmen get the vaccine ahead of teachers or over 60s or that they are a priority. The day/time slots put in place for teachers/over 60s by the government would not be affected by this proposal. Elite rugby has and will be played as agreed DCMS. If all players were vaccinated this would significantly reduce the risk of infection among this group -70 in the premiership in the past 3 weeks- and reduce possible subsequent pressure on the NHS. With the clubs paying for this to happen this would also benefit the NHS financially.

Surely you can see the terrible precedent this would set? If elite rugby players/clubs can be fast tracked a vaccine 'because they can pay for it' then this would just lead to every business or person with money jumping the queue leaving those who are more vulnerable unable to get one.

But that is exactly what you are suggesting.

If the hours for vaccinating are lengthened then the priority groups should be asked to fill the appointments - not elite sportsmen - as far as I am aware no elite sportsmen have been admitted to hospital with the effects of Covid let alone Died.

If their have been that many in recent weeks then sport should be shut down.

I believe even R Murdoch (being 89) had to
go and get his vaccine from the NHS vaccination facility
He drove there with his entourage
No special treatment and he was entitled to get the vaccine due to his age
