GARETH
Good to hear you're heading in the right direction again ..liked going to Totts to hear the Benny Hill accents and counting the many fans you have with eyebrows on their cheeks😂...seriously good pre match grub was served at waterlane... miss that the most We have started well with 4 wins from 5 games, the next two games are against top and second but our boys are up for it and will give them a fright if they underestimate us Look forward to some more of your abuse soon mate👍

It will be an interesting season indeed. Teams will use the breathing space afforded by no relegations to re-structure which was certainly within our thinking. Some will see 3 possibly 4 promotion places as a chance to get out of a league where previously it was 1 or 2 promoted. There will be those who are in recovery still from the effects of Covid on their club so they too will use this as a chance to re-set. The introduction of 3 or 4 new teams next season should not impact on the quality of the competition as we usually expect similar numbers each year though the loss of several quality teams promoted may have an effect but that will be re-balanced once relegation is re-introduced. The lack of threat of relegation may, as alluded to earlier allow coaches to experiment and test new ideas which give more variety and dare I say entertaining plays. The weather as it turns will give heavier packs an advantage, but who knows if lighter potentially fitter players may start to prevail as is certainly the thinking in NZ.
All too early to tell but it will be fun to watch! Wet week-end coming so maybe the slick passing backs may not be the preferred option. Best, Vuarnet

It’s very hard to judge the league this year, I’m sure we are in for lots of surprising results as the season carries on. The weather is not starting to turn, so the bigger packs will come into their own.

Reading the reports, it was Horsham's best performance of the season and comfortably our worst. We're still trying combinations out, lots of squad rotation, and we've had four captains in our last five games (including the final pre-season friendly) due to injuries. But we're four from four - three of them away from home - and top of the the league with plenty of room for improvement.

I don't think we'll remain unbeaten - we've lost once in each of the last three seasons, and I wouldn't be surprised if we get turned over two or three times this year - but I think everyone is confident that promotion is a realistic objective again, although we're well aware that this is a big step-up and probably tougher than L1N would have been. It seems like a very competitive league, with five clubs on three wins. So far Medway are the ones I've got my eye on, with Camberley overcoming an early setback to show some impressive form in recent weeks - that result against Chichester on Saturday was a bit of an eye-opener!

Top London Welsh, Runners up Camberley, Medway 3rd but they tend to fade at season end, and 4th position.....would love to say Chichester but I cannot see Guildford and the Geese continuing to play below par. It as always will get the pulses racing around KO time, so much entertainment and "Strictly" as well!

With the greatest respect
They have played the bottom 2 And nobody in the top half of the table Ironsides being the best positioned side Reading the reports Horsham gave them a run for their money and no try bonus point either Again greatest respect to Horsham but look where they are placed 4 games in! We came up against a very good side when we were missing 2nd row players and a little light on the bench. By half time the scrum was under pressure and we had emptied the bench . I will not take anything away from Camberley as they were relentless in attack and we were lucky that they were binned by the ref when we went down to 14 men about halfway through the half so it was pretty much 14 v 14 till the end. But their defence stifled our backs and they made their aspirations clear. Must say the hospitality and the Scruffs was exemplary and we look forwards to the return event when we should have more of a contest .
Best, Vuarnet

What happened at Camberley? 52-0? Doesn’t reflect the start Chichester has made

No relegation this season chaps so can take a longer term view! You can expect to start seeing our results gradually improve as the season goes on - twas ever thus! Stay safe and well and good luck with your seasons.

Not the same without you Tony, perhaps Dickon could propose a prediction league similar to your league? A bit of banter goes a long way and adds to the daily colour.
Good luck this week-end Mate, we have a massive challenge both at home (Bognor) and away at Camberley. Best Vuarnet

From the London Welsh website. The RFU has this week confirmed the Promotion and Relegation position for London 1 South in the 2021/22 Season. No less than 3 sides will be promoted from London Welsh’s league this season, there will be no relegation. There is ‘potential’ for a 4th side to be promoted depending upon the performance in other leagues. The enhanced promotion regulation comes as the RFU league structure evolves from the beginning of the 2022/23 season to allow for additional regional levels at both National 2 and National 3 in the rugby pyramid (level 4 and 5). By way of example, we will see as of next season 6 regional leagues at National 3 level, up from 4 in the current structure. As we enter year 4 of the 5 year plan following the London Welsh ‘Project Reset’, Director of Rugby Cai Griffiths will be looking for a 4th consecutive promotion (completing the goal of 4 promotions in 5 seasons, with one season to spare). The increased promotion pool in what is a competitve league, makes for a mouth watering season of clashes ahead for the London Welsh supporters and Supporters Club. In other news: we have also been informed by the league secretary that Haywards Heath RFC has withdrawn from London 1 South in the coming season. Therefore, the scheduled fixtures on 13/10/21 and 19/2/22 will now not take place and become free weekends. We wish Haywards Heath RFC all the very best in the future after what has been a difficult 18 months. |
