As a relatively recent watcher of N1 after years of the Championship, I do think there's a problem in the pyramid in that N1 is more competitive and (subjectively) more entertaining than the Championship. Overall quality is obviously higher at level 2, because they're professional and training full-time, but with the money being spent down here it's what we ex-matelots looking for submarines would call a "temperature inversion" on the descent - where the rugby cools between the premiership and championship, then warms again between the championship and N1....
