so the league is back next weekend with some tasty pre-Christmas treats:
Fixtures:
Saturday 21st December:
Jersey v London Scottish - 2pm
Ealing v Newcastle - 3pm (Sky Sports)
Coventry v Nottingham - 5.30pm - is this right, seems a strange KO time, is it on Sky?

Sunday 22nd December:
Cornish Pirates v Hartpury College - 2.30pm
Yorkshire Carnegie v Doncaster - 3pm

Thursday 26th December (Boxing Day)
Bedford v Ampthill - 3pm

Predictions:

Jersey 4 v 1 London Scottish - Jersey at home just too strong but close
Ealing 4 v 1 Newcastle - more in hope than expectation I must admit but if the best Ealing turns up then it could happen. wouldn't shock me if Falcons lost this.
Coventry 1 v 4 Nottingham - most people will go for Cov but just got a feeling.....
Leeds 0 v 5 Doncaster - changed after seeing Donny's team... should have far too much class for Leeds.
Cornish Pirates 5 v Hartpury 0 - not all one way but Pirates ought to win comfortably enough.
Bedford 1 v Ampthill 4 - I think Amps will make it 3 in a row v Bedford this season!!.

Yes Donnyfan; Sky dictating stoopid times again. (However, according to the club's website it's a 17:15 ko. Whichever is correct I shall get there considerably earlier in an effort to avoid two trips in darkness).

Jersey 5 v 1 London Scottish - Here's hoping that Scottish have an easier trip to Jersey than last year, but I think that the islanders will carve them up as the Scottish struggles in the league continue.
Ealing 5 v 1 Newcastle - I couldn't be more excited for this game. One part of me says that I'm being a homer with this prediction, but another part says that Ealing has won its last two home matches by a combined 136-36. Selection will be key, hope they start the massively in-form Durutalo.
Coventry 4 v 1 Nottingham - Coventry were better than the scoreline reflected last week, but Nottingham were excellent as well. I'll give the home team the benefit of the doubt.
Leeds 0 v 5 Doncaster - Battle of Yorkshire. My understanding is that Leeds suffered a grisly injury in the past game, and that just reminds me of all of the discussion around safety prior to the season. I don't have enough info to comment further, but a concern. I think Leeds is just too weak to compete.
Cornish Pirates 1 v Hartpury 4 - Hartpury on form, and Pirates going through one of their mini-swoons after starting hot.
Bedford 1 v Ampthill 4 - Agree, Ampthill to go back-to-back.

Jersey 5-0 Scottish - I expect a lot of changes in the starting 15 and if the weather allows some fast running rugby from both sides and Jersey to win by 5 tries to 2.

Ealing 3-3 Newcastle - Although 5-2 either way more likely. The two best forward packs I've seen this season and its likely to go down to the wire with perhaps just a missed kick deciding it..

Coventry 4 v 1 Nottingham - Two well matched sides but at home in front of a big crowd I fancy Cov to edge it by a handful of points.

Leeds 4-1Donny - If Yorkies are going to have any chance of staying up they need to win this one.

Pirates 4-1 Hartpury Could be really close if Hartpury borrow well this week.

Bedford 5-2 Ampthill  A huge crowd and probably the best game to watch this weekend.

Have a great Christmas - keep safe no injuries please.

Dont kick it. Pick it up and GO FORWARD.

Oh dear. Is this going to be another Barbarians team for the second half of the year?

So few league matches have been played, if Yorkshire have an injection of talent it wouldn't be difficult for them to get away from the bottom. I think they would probably looking at demotion from League One, had they taken their rightful place there.
It will be interesting to see what happens.

I think it was firmly said with tongue in cheek . . .  I dont see anything changing at Leeds, just a few more pointless matches until they cease to exist!
Run with it

Jersey 5 v 2 LS
A few points in this one but Reds to take it. Beers on the way back for Scots but otherwise no reward

Ealing 1 v 5 Newcastle
No Xmas cheer for Ealing, tight at first but Falcons to romp home

Coventry 5 v 1 Nottingham
Cov too much pace at home. Notts seem neither here nor there

Leeds 4 v 1 Doncaster
Absolute must-win for rejuvenated Carnegie. Four points here will make for a very jittery lunch and an early night for Bedford on the 25th

Cornish Pirates 2 v Hartpury 5
An upset waiting to happen., Pury dismissed Donny last week with nothing to play for, so will be up for it

Bedford 1 v Ampthill 4
Amps looking to win last 4 from 4 against Blues. Huge pressure on Bedford to get something from it.

Jersey 5 v 0 LS ... Jersey will be up for this and LS have not been firing in the league as they have in the Cup. However, they are capable of causing an upset and will get chances. Could be a good game, but have to back my team.
Ealing 1 v 4 Newcastle ... Battle royal up front for this one. Interestingly, speaking to the Reds players following a first half mauling at Ealing, they said that ET really ran out of puff and another 10 minutes and they really thought that they would have had them. Play like that and I can see Falcons running in some points late on. Should be a belter though.

Coventry 4 v 1 Nottingham ... Good match up this one, but have to give it to Cov for home advantage. Nottingham, to keep them honest and will be in it right to the final whistle.

Leeds 0 v 5 Doncaster ... Not a hope. Donny to have a bonny Christmas.

Cornish Pirates 5 v Hartpury 0 ... This will be tight for an hour or so, but I fancy Pirates to run in 2 or 3 late tries. Hartpury will make them, work for it though, they do defend well.

Bedford 4 v Ampthill 1 ... Bedford to get revenge for the defeats so far in the biggest gate of the season. Crackling atmosphere, wish I could be there for this one.

Good luck everyone, please stay safe and have a wonderful festive time with lots of spirit [<:o)]

Hah. Didn't notice that Rob!

Pish up in brewery. No harm done though as I'll be there early (but definitely not wearing a Christmas jumper or claiming my free drink).

Broomfield for me and, likewise, I'll not be claiming my free drink...

My first boozy trip up BPA this year and already dreading having to buy a drink in the ground!
