Hoppers have had horrendous injury problems all season. For two thirds of the campaign they’ve been missing at least half of their first choice starting XV. Suggest that sort of injury list would’ve impacted any team in this division.

Losing their Captain & hooker to a heart problem (later diagnosed as a heart attack post a game in December) was the most serious. It’s been a season of fire fighting. It was said last week they’ve not named the same starting XV for two consecutive weeks and at its worst, 60% of the squad was injured in November.

Clearly the knock on as been loss of games, confidence and ultimately status. Extremely disappointing after very good seasons.

We played Hoppers a couple of weeks back - they are a decent outfit, show loads of heart and have been on the wrong end of a lot of luck - execution of opportunities is an issue for them, but they will get there with that. Was a full clubhouse when we where there, lots of positive voices, but they have reached a point where the seem to have accepted the inevitable and using it as an opportunity to give the future of the club some experience, seems very pragmatic and thinking of the longer term future of the club, which has to be applauded.
