I haven’t heard anything other than what’s been mentioned by the club- in other words nothing yet! All I heard was Alistair Bow in the interview with the Rugby Paper saying that they were trying to get as many on retained contracts as they can but he didn’t elaborate any further.

I have great sympathy for both club and players. One assumes the vast majority of players at Nottingham were/are there because they are on a full time wage. Now the club has announced there will no longer be full time players, for a player to stay he has to get a job away from rugby, probably to be his major monthly income-but who is giving medium to long term reasonably paid jobs out at the moment?  If the player has a working partner/wealthy parents staying may be possible but if not how will his sums add up? Until the player secures that non rugby employment how can he commit to a rugby contract for the club to then announce? Until the clubs know exactly their financial positions- no clubs yet no when any money will start coming in again- how can clubs in good conscious offer contracts that they may later have to renege upon? Incredibly difficult for all concerned.

Agree with your thoughts , on the positive Nottingham has a reputation for developing players and helping them move up the system this shouldn't change as we are retaining some good coaches. We may be looking more Uni level players and with our ties with NTU that should continue hopefully as per the boards statement we can develop the tie with Nottingham Uni. There are a very good number of corporate links which could help with jobs but that's only when the country comes out of the C19.
Being old and ancient it reminds me of the pre professional times when Nottingham was near the top table and a string of guys came to play because of the corporate contacts .

I see that Ma'ama Molitika of Ampthill has retired.
Molitika has been a great forward, often making the difference between success or defeat for Ampthill. I remember a few years ago when Ampthill finished as runners up to Hull Ionians in N2N, the home match at Brantingham Park was a low scoring cracker. I think we won 7-5 and the reason we did not score more was simply Molitika. He was outstanding. At 45, Molitika has certainly earned his retirement.

Hope he gets some game time. Sounds like he might have to work for it if they have three other 9s.

Would agree seen a number of good players move up with the hope of making to sadly get little game time and come down again

I guess that applies to many signings making the Champ-Prem jump: specialists (those who play at 1/2/3/9/10) are likely to have at least 3 rivals for a single shirt in the starting XV. Perhaps a bit easier for locks/centres/wings etc who are at least shooting for multiple shirts and can be a bit more versatile.

Looking at Jersey's ex-players over the years, some have slotted in as regulars but others have to make do with bit parts...

(Excuse the intrusion on the Champ board, there's diddly squat to discuss on Nat 1.)

(mis)applying the old forces dictum of:

rank x intelligence = k;

is there a certain paralell at L1.5-L3.5 of

ability x game time = k?

Thinking a little bit of Dan Mugford who went Notts-Sale-Plymouth... (If he stays with Taunton, he'll be back at L3 next season.)

Come cheer up, my lads - 'tis to glory we steer!

Could be back at Bedford! Funnily enough 3 of Northampton's scrum halfs have played for Blues.

And Tom Kessell, no 9 at Pirates, went to Saints and reappeared at Coventry. Looks like Saints like plenty of scrum half cover.

Not surprisingly as :-

It's a key position
2 scrum halves in every match squad
Scrum halves tend to be smaller players therefore liable to be injured more

Jamie Gibbs, Richmond scrum half, has announced his retirement. He has had to play second fiddle to two very good scrum halves in recent years, but came into his own this last season, playing superbly sometimes.

I've never heard that theory before R999 - is it backed by any evidence?

I think they are amongst the most active players, but haven't noticed them getting injured that often. My impression is that wings get a lot of injuries. Some conscientious person with time on their hands can no doubt answer this.

my other half, who would be a hard-hitting No6 if she was ever to be reincarnated as a rugby player, gave her opinion, which was that scrum-halves tend to be gobby and therefore liable to be punched!

In the old days I would agree, nowadays far too many cameras.

Nothing official yet, but according to the Rugby Paper, Sarries have made their first raid on the Championship in signing Will Hooley from the Blues.
