Having become aware of the financial predicament of a  number of National league clubs who have variously launched appeals following the current interruption isn't it about time they woke up to the fact that they really cant afford to pay players and remain sustainable in the long term. Yes the short term is obviously a problem with interrupted cash flow etc but in reality that just proves the fragility of the model. One also wonders how many sponsors will still be as keen to carry on given their own problems.

Surely the future has to be the quality of the coaching coupled with the advancement of the younger  players coming through to play at a decent level combined with the match day experience of the  paying public. If everyone agreed not to pay then would the standards really suffer? Are players simply going to stop playing because they don't get paid?

I for one hope that we don't have too many clubs that may not make the much heralded reorganization next year but unilaterally cutting back payment to players would be at least a start.

A second point for thought is that unless the current situation lifts pretty quickly ,which currently seems unlikely, then does anyone have any thoughts on how the 30 game season could work if say we didn't start till October ?
I think there could be 3 options( and probably others)
1 Play into the summer 2021?
2 reorganize the league numbers to 14 or 12 now ( as proposed for the season after?)
3 Have a season where there is no relegation or promotion on the basis the reorganization is happening anyway(this would also tie in nicely if the season starts late)?

A couple of small topics for debate?

Stay well and safe  everyone

Money has entered the game and now fuels ambition, to put it at it's simplest, no money no success, it's now in every sport. National leagues are the ambition of many local clubs, once they have tasted that, they will want more, inevitable and even given financial upheaval, many will still throw more money at it. You can thank the Saracens model for speeding up that desire to be the ones at the top even if you can't afford it. Wasps losing £5 million a year, how much longer than that go ?
