They are often financially attractive for clubs - normally you dont have to pay Academy players as they are on a contract with the Prem club, whereas the person they are replacing would normally be paid x amount. However of course if you are a player missing out on pay because of an academy player coming in, you are entitled to be a bit annoyed....

Not true in my experience, players on d/r with us get an agreed match fee from us. I suspect it is knocked off their salary by their Premiership Club. The point is that it is no saving.

There is sometimes. When I was a DoR back there, some years ago we had players on loan from a Championship club and indeed had to pay them, but later we had three Academy players from a Premiership club and didn't pay them at all. The arrangement suited them as we were providing them with valuable match experience at N2. It depends where you get your players from.
