Ealing Trailfinders have recently played Newcastle Falcons home and away and Bristol A team yesterdaywith the return leg at Ealing Trailfinders next week with a limited crowd ( All Ealing Trailfinders home crowds are limited ! ).

There are finally real signs that we may be able to return to some sort of norm. The Covid Vaccine seems to work which was not always a given. The new year will hopefully see us all turn the corner.

Ambition should be made of sterner stuff.

I hope you are correct, however currently only a couple of the championship sides are at this level - a number of the rest have furloughed players or cannot muster a match squad.

I know things can move quickly, but with the vast majority of the country in tier 2 or 3 I fear we may still be a minimum of a couple of months before a re-start.

South and West Yorkshire moving quite quickly towards Tier 2 - potentially at the next review so some positive (ish) news there. And similarly this is happening elsewhere.

NHS immunisation program to start in the coming days - positive news there, yes it will take months to get a large enough spread but let us take the positive there

Championship Rugby starting mid-January looks promising - positive news there.

Yes, lots to still sort out but we can start to feel slightly more cup half full than half empty.

Well said. 2021 will be much better (not saying much I guess) but hopefully by year end things will be back to normal.

Well, here we go! RFU Update tonight allows 15 a side contact training from Wednesday and contact friendlies from 18th December. Adapted laws will apply, no scrums or mauls. Full details coming tomorrow.

With nothing to suggest variations by tier (at the moment), so in tier 3 we can play contact rugby but not go for a pint in the pub!

Yes, and you’ll have go home for a shower. In Tier 2 up to 6 people can change at any one time, then have a drink while eating a substantial meal which could be a scotch egg.

Inside provided households don’t mix. We are redesigning the clubhouse with 40 one-seat tables for the players!LOL

I’m assuming these amended laws apply to grassroots rugby and not to the Championship given we are deemed (for some reason) elite level sport?

Credit to the RFU for doing their best to keep some form of rugby going.
This is a good option to keep players engaged and in contact with coaches and teammates. Let’s embrace it and if we are allowed to go along and give some support to both teams (with or without a pint in hand) let’s do so.

IMO it will only be if people are watching, how else are you going to pay for the facilities to be opened up and I don’t think all the players will turn up and play for free

Do we need to rename the site for the rest of the season?

A report in the rugby paper suggests that the 16th January has been penciled in as a possible start date for the championship. If a 22 match League season is not possible then 2 conferences of 6 is being considered with semi- finals and play off final to decide the promoted club. Each conference would be determined by last season's alternate league position. Pirates would be grouped with Saracens, Ampthill, Jersey, Doncaster and Hartpury.

Seems strange they have gone for seeded groups rather than geographical.  Local derbies would reduce travelling costs and matches such as Bedford v Ampthill and Lon Scots v Richmond would surely be better for the finances of the clubs. With semi final and final they could still have a Saracens v Ealing final if that is what they wish/need to produce.

This January 16th has been mentioned for a while.
Less than seven weeks.
Fixture lists yet? With a week at the End of December basically lost, but surely if this was a serious date a list would be out soon.

Along with warm up matches, which surely would be needed by Boxing Day, I am seriously believing it won’t happen.

September 2021 and watch out for the fudges of Saracens being promoted without playing a match this ‘season’.
Looking forward to new beginnings.

As a comparison there were no warm up matches before Premiership or Prem 15s restarted. If community rugby can now do full contact training I imagine the Championship clubs are doing pretty close to full training so even with Xmas that gives the same amount of prep time the other two elite leagues were given. Maybe our Christmas present will be a fixture list although looking at news today from Jersey they might struggle to get permission to be involved.
