YEEEEEAAALING! Alun Walker was amazing. Threw darts all day, and scored a couple of tries. What a return to rugby after a few months off injured. Very pleased.

Congrats to Ealing. Sarries scrabbling for BPs (2 I think?!) at the end - not quite the start they were hoping for. Does this mean a change of plan with Farrell, George, Daley, Mako 'n' Maro coming in to face Donny next w/e?
(tongue-in-cheek question)

Thought the streaming was really good today
Just a thought, maybe if all championship clubs do a deal with 247.TV it could provide a valuable revenue stream whilst crowds are not allowed in. Not sure what commercials were in place for today. Ie how much money did Ealing and Saracens make Today As I said just a thought

A rude awakening for the Sarries fans who think the Championship will be easy.

A victory not just for Ealing but also the Championship. A full strength Saracens is a different proposition but by getting the win it silences the ring-fencers for the time being. Over to you Donny!

Well done Ealing, although how many of that team will play for Saracens when/if you meet in the league remains to be seen (5 English internationals otherwise engaged and up to 10 others suspended for Barbarian Covid infringements) Not sure how the championship is going to start early March unless funds are found for weekly testing of all 12 teams squads not to mention the Lockdown which is unlikely to be lifted before Easter. |

Yes, certainly Sarries can put out a considerably stronger team, though I saw them put out weaker teams last year in the Premiership. I was pretty annoyed to see the following quote from Mark McCall on the BBC "It's so hard for an international player to play in a game like this and not get frustrated at times - with your team-mates and with the opposition. But I'm really pleased." What the heck is that supposed to mean? Good to see that Sarries can continuously manage to be unclassy in whatever division they are in, consistent form is important.

Good article in the Sunday Times covering this game and a real attack on the RFU and PL over the way that they have treated the Championship with the cutting of finances, the re-structure including PL A sides being totally ignores and ring fencing.
Reading it, it’s almost as if the PL feel threatened by the Championship. The RFU are just too scared of the PL and are ignoring the benefits that the Championship brings to international rugby. Well done Ealing, great result..... Donny, your turn!! Edited by Brizzer - 17 Jan 2021 at 12:08 |

No mention of the game only how well Billy Vunipola played. How typical of the BBC to avoid any reference whatsoever to the Championship.

The Rugby Paper report with the head to head contest with opposite number suggests Rayn Smid had the better game.

He did. Billy was a non-factor except when he knocked on over the line.

You can not allow Billy Vunipola to get going forward. He was often stopped on receiving the ball and pressurised several times 2/3 times by Rayn Smidt.

Yes, I thought Ealing were very good at keeping him out of the game - he was tackled early preventing him getting a head of steam up. Good way to reduce his impact.
Anyhow, he is looking forward to travelling up North to get some mud on his knees and elbows this week. Clearly never bothered watching the England Ladies play at Castle Park otherwise he would know we have a hybrid pitch and mud is the last thing he will be seeing. You would think he would do his homework before opening his mouth. Or maybe to confuse him we switch play to our AstroTurf pitch.

News just in via Twitter... Saracens Rugby Club
@Saracens
Saracens' match against @DoncasterKnight in the Trailfinders Challenge Cup has been cancelled.
We are without 34 players for the match at Castle Park on Saturday because of injury, suspension and isolation and are therefore unable to field a side.
