FT Ampthill 40 - 38 Blues
Ampthill win it at the death. Blues seemed to give away 20+ penalties and lost 2 players to yellow cards I think. Looks like a lot of work required with the scrum... hope we sign a scrummaging forwards coach.

Always need to be careful around taking too much from a preseason match, but I was pretty happy with what I saw from Ealing today. Quite snappy with ball in hand, and their short range game was effective against Glos 1st and 2nd teams; something that had been deficient against premiership sides previously. I reckon that in a regular season game there would have been at least 2 or 3 yellows that weren't awarded, and Ealing were fading toward the end of the first half, but this looks like a side that should be able to handle most Championship challenges.
Highlight for me though was to discover after 30 minutes of nattering with a Gloucester fan that it was actually Billy Twelvetree's dad - very nice chap.

I am not keen on levelling criticism on a match day evening, especially after the mighty Ampthill clawed out a 40-38 win over our local neighbours, Bedford. But the only way I was able to follow the game was by Twitter. And The Bedford Blues Twitter feed was magnificent with probably over 40 detailed updates throughout the 80 minutes..
The Ampthill RFC Twitter feed on the other hand was spartan. An announcement that it was 15 minutes to kick off, the half time score, and the full time score. And that was it. I have been critical lately of the lack of information on their website, although this has recently improved..How about introducing a more detailed Twitter service with immediate effect? |

If you are not happy with the club's Twitter feed, then why don't you approach them and suggest, going forward, you do the match day feed updates? After all most clubs rely heavily on willing and able volunteers.

This would normally be an excellent suggestion. If I lived locally to Ampthill I would definitely volunteer to do this. Unfortunately I live near Skipton in North Yorkshire, I am currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment for advanced prostate cancer, and so doing a 350 mile round trip to do a Twitter report is not a current logical option for me. |

I think that qualifies as an acceptable excuse Cherub - I hope your treatment does the trick and you are soon back in good health (but I can't make you any younger!!)

Please, there is no need to apologise. As I wrote previously, your suggestion to volunteer and do it yourself was an excellent one. Just not in my case. |

A significant accident on the M1 (that delayed the officials arrival) meant our Tweeter ( i think that is the correct term) missed most of the game. Full service will resume on 25th Sept when we welcome Coventry.
