In my opinion as someone who referees is that Bedford got players through the maul and disrupted but every time they did they were penalised which was wrong. If you can’t come through the maul then you might as well stand aside and let the team with the ball score. When you can put 8 bodies between the ball and the defence it’s a nonsense and is something definitely needs looking at. He was a ref that wasn’t going to let a full phase be completed without blowing the whistle because he wanted to be the centre of attention. Different from the ref at Pirates who kept out of the way for the most part. Obviously struggling in the scrum but that can’t be helped and was always going to be the problem this season. A bunch of 18-20 year old were never going to be strong enough. Just got to keep going and keep entertaining as that’s what brings the thousands to watch Bedford coming every week. Whether we finish 3rd or 11th, makes no difference

I think many would disagree with this - i do. Yes, people like entertaining losers but people remember winning champions. They are the ones with the names in the history books. Professional sport is about winning, entertainment is a secondary aim for any DoR. No doubt this could be the subject of heated debate in The Cricketers and many other similar hostelries- remember those

Sounds like Bedford have particular injury problems in the forwards; Jersey have multiple backs out through injury, and have been without a backs coach for more than two months while he's been on national service with England. Those factors probably magnified the contrast in styles between the sides today...
