And although the wind did play its part, that was without any doubt the worst 40 minutes I have watched this season. It was like watching two average Division 1 sides making mistake after mistake. It was not Championship standard.

This is the first glimpse I have had of Richmond so I cannot really comment, except to say they look very ordinary.

Ampthill on the other hand I have seen all but one of their games. They continue to give away far too many penalties and even their handling, which is normally excellent, is letting them down. I am hoping Mr Turner will give them a good rollicking and I can look forward to a much better second half. At least Ampthill will have the slight wind advantage.

And as soon as I say that Ampthill put together an excellent move resulting in their 4th bonus point try. Much better. Conversion just missed.

Ampthill 24-15

After soaking up a Richmond comeback Ampthill regain control with a good period of possession and a 5th try.

Ampthill 31-22 Richmond

Not the best ever game but it did improve in the 2nd half.

Ampthill score 5 tries to one and yet could have lost because of the penalty count. Something to work on before next season.

Time now to concentrate on Bedford away next week.

Kickable pen to home team

Nottingham win with the final kick after Bedford took the lead with what we thought was the last kick of the game. Some poor decisions from Bedford to give Nottingham 3 penalties from their 22 after the restart, let them work down the pitch, and, fair play, they took them to score with the last. Final score was 22-20, 3 tries a piece.
