The post season friendly between Chinnor and Rams scheduled for yesterday was postponed due to a Chinnor player going down with Covid and many others having to accordingly self-isolate............

Moseley have got Cinderford Home and Away on 3rd and 17th August respectively. Our DoR did say though that these might not all take the form of full games, there may be some contested training sessions or mixed games as the focus is to get the players ready for 4th September rather than just playing a game for the sake of having a friendly.

Cov have (mostly!) confirmed the Mose friendly now.
BPA, Friday August 27th (ko time tbc). Shame it's a Friday game, but there you go. I assume the Bears already have Saturday game arranged, but haven't yet checked.
They've also announced another friendly against an irrelevant London side who keep losing their way. Or maybe their satnav; but the Mose one is the only important one.

Friday evening the RFU wrote to all Championship clubs saying they were not to play any National League sides pre season.

The Championship is regarded as " elite" sport. Hence why they were able to play in Feb.
I understand talking to my source at a National league 1 club, they received the same some weeks before.

So the question is ... How do sides like Richmond, Ampthill, Jersey play players in the 2nd xv's to get them game time, or if they are coming back from injury or if they have been dropped.
Many clubs are part time in the champ now, you could have 2 people working in the same office sitting next to each other all week, only for them not to be allowed to play against each other on a Saturday,

We all know that Richmond run a 2s ad 3s in the Zoo leagues. So how will they play players in those sides that have had no game time ?
Also how are those sides going to get a pre season fixture or even train?
Because they are classed as and train with an "elite sport squad". You cannot train with the 1st xv on a Thursday night and one set of players be ok to play sides that are not elite on the Saturday and the other set of players not be allowed to.

They have again not thought this through.

The next point will be how can a side in National 1 receive loan players from a side that is classed as "elite"
If they cannot play against each other how can they then loan a player to them.

Blackheath have announced a loan deal with Ealing, Chinnor loan from many sides every season, Cinderford use Gloucester, Plymouth would not get a side out without Exeters younger players as they don't run a 2nd xv , Taunton the same with using Exeter player, Sale who also do not run a 2s with Sale Sharks, Stortford with Saracens the list in National 1 is endless, with most sides having "loan players" in their xv's each week, which is not the issue or point, but

How can "elite" sportsman play and train at full time clubs in the week, but be ok to go out on loan on Saturdays to clubs they cannot even have a fixture against pre season and then more importantly, return to the mother club having played for a National league side on the Saturday that they were not allowed to play against!

I'd like to know peoples take on this!

ST you raise some really interesting questions. The RFU/DCMS has been very strict in the handling of the covid situation with elite rugby. I cannot see, given the regulations/restrictions the Prem and Champ clubs had to adhere to last season and are continuing to have to adhere to this season, that they will allow elite players to mix with non elite, especially given the current rising rates of infection. The opening up today will only raise these rates higher.  My mates son plays at Richmond and he informs me they currently have 2 totally separate Champ and non Champ  squads who train in different places and use different toilets etc. He also said the club is itself insisting all players in the non RFU testing squad do and report a negative lateral flow test on each day before they train. However what happens when they, plus Ampthill and Jersey, come to play 2nd XV fixtures is not yet clear.

Surely this has much more serious implications than just pre-season friendlies. I wouldn't put it past the authorities to put it out 48 hours before the first round of fixtures at Levels 3 and 4 that "no Loan signings" of players registered at "Elite" clubs  to be allowed at "Non-elite" level. Now that would be interesting!

Yes NL1 can't play Championship clubs, as the Championship Clubs are classified as Elite Sport.  This issue is being discussed on a few threads including above.

A real shame to break this traditional match up.

Richmond playing Ampthill on Aug 21 and Lon Scots on Sept 4. Not allowed to play Blackheath because Championship clubs are having to test all players twice per week using the RFU supplied and costed lateral flow test whereas Nat 1 and below are not. RFU do not want to see elite rugby matches cancelled due to Covid plus also there is a concern that Nat 1 teams and below have not done full scrums or mauls for 17 months whereas Champ players were doing them regularly only 7 weeks ago.
