I thing Ealing put in a stupendous effort in the first half then ran out of steam. The Smid error was symptomatic of that. Just not used to playing at that intensity.

When you look at Ealing's games this season a lot of them were quite close at half time (this was certainly true when Pirates played them) then they overpowered the opposition in the second half. This was probably due to them having more depth in their squad than everyone else and were able to bring on high quality replacements. The tables were turned against Sarries who have international quality throughout. When Pirates beat Sarries in the first game they didn't have their six nations men, even though they still had 163 International caps in that squad. Pirates were almost at full strength and played out of their skins. As the season progressed we were decimated with injuries (especially in the backs) and didn't have the numbers in the squad to cope so lost a couple of games as a result. This, no doubt, was true for other clubs and with Covid, no income etc, it was always going to be hard for anyone to upset Ealing or Sarries.

If you control the players then you control your fortune. There needs to be a cap in Premiership squad sizes and the RFU academies need to be made independent of the clubs.

Saracens are importing even more internationals, if you can believe the papers.

I believe there is a cap on the number of players in a Premiership squad.
I think what you mean is a smaller or meaningful cap.
It is currently 70 players.

We all know that caps are meaningless when it comes to Mr Wray's club.
