Benneton have 21 players in the Italy squad! Guys who are second choice for them get into the national side. The fact that Benneton don't even do very well in the European competitions says it all about the dire, dire state of the game there. I find that quite amazing.

England captain Owen Farrell is set to miss the Six Nations opener against Scotland after suffering an injury while training with Saracens.

Farrell will see a specialist early next week and is now not expected to join up with England in their training camp in Brighton.

England will announce a squad update on Monday with Courtney Lawes favourite to take over the captaincy in Farrell's absence.

Unsure why such a fuss about Farell's unavailability.

He isn't 1 of the best 2 fly halves and he isn't 1 of the best 4 centres.

He isn't even the best captain, as a number of referees have taken a dislike to him.

On top of that, we saw last year that he couldn't just step up and turn it on, he hasn't played for weeks so I for one are fairly glad he won't be available - maybe Eddie will see it is time to move on.

Ordinarily I don't think there would be so much fuss, but Farrell is pretty much nailed on to start under Eddie, unless there's a limb hanging off.

For me, this is a major weak-spot. We all know there are much better options at 10 and in the Centres - and you could argue this is where we need to trail the combinations in the run to the next WC - but Eddie persists with the comfy default.
