3 Spanish Speaking teams and 1 Portuguese team and none of the referees speak Spanish.
Obviously not the biggest issue In World Rugby’s In-Tray, but maybe fast track a Spanish speaker with the Same enthusiasm as the referee’s committee encourage ex players?

If we're saying that the Portuguese should be counted as Spanish for the purpose of refereeing language (which IMO is a big leap), then surely Argentina are dealt with by Italian, given quite how many Argentineans are of Italian descent?

I understand speaking Spanish as Portuguese is somewhat dangerous in either country - English and zFrench are a simpler option

That match in Cardiff was a good one to avoid, it seems.

Most of the England players manage to avoid playing in it Paul.
I predict a comprehensive England win in the return this weekend followed by press conferences saying it's all going to plan. Probably from both sides.

I think they need to find a game plan by then and a scrum half who can provide quick ball

England orders, scrum halves told not to take risks, if they'd just let them play, any of them. Quirke should have been there instead of Care, but they think Smith can't do anything at 10 unless Care is there.

Smith needs to stop worrying about his hair and figure out how to get his back line into play without kicking the leather off the ball

See the previous comment. Does Smith kick the leather of the ball when he's playing across the A316? No - this whole kicking game from the half-backs is completely driven by the coaches, not the players.

Really and all you hear from coaches is they want players to take ownership.
Anyway he's gone at the expense of another 8 which I think is a mistake Why do you need 3 10's ...you don't Why do you need more that one 8.. well look at Billy's injury record ... you cannot tell me that Mercer would not add more value Edited by Scrumtime - 08 Aug 2023 at 10:10 |

It also helps that across the road, the forwards give the nine better ball, and the players outside him are aligned better, and the defenders have lass chance to get aligned. A lot of that is due to the quality of the opposition.

I never criticise a coach for his selection because I don't know what his overall strategy is and I don't know the way that individual players work together. What I will say is that if you pick the Quins players then you need to play the type of game that they are suited to, the principle of scoring more tries than the opposition, as opposed to the Leicester game of not conceding tries while you score or the Saracens way of waiting for the opposition to make mistakes and then capitalising on them.
The Quins way looks best but doesn't win trophies while the other two win trophies but can look boring. If you are going down the Leicester/Saracens route then you pick Youngs, Farrell, Tuilagi and Lawrence. If you're going the Quins route you pick Care, Smith, Slade and Marchant. The real concern is the lack of power up front. What has happened to Genge and Sinckler? They used to dominate but don't any more.
