My inept attempts to stream the Pirates v Mond match failed so hopefully Radio Cornwall will be an option.

A dire game of rugby (and I use that word loosely) at Coventry. The least worst team won. I don’t think either team made a line break all game and the handling from both teams was horrendous, despite playing in great conditions. Ultimately, Bedford must’ve given away circa 20 penalties and that cost them 3 yellow cards and you are unlikely to win in that scenario. We must have the worst discipline in the league season after season. Best to just consign that one to history and move on, but Coventry will be delighted with the 5 points.

Unfortunately I only got to watch the first half of the Pirates V Richmond game. Pirates started at such a pace and the defence of Richmond was superb, Pirates maybe should have scored outwide a couple of times, but if Richmond had managed their lineout better they could also have had a couple . The Live stream was superb and the commentary balanced . . I was expecting Pirates to run away with it second half so was surprised to see only one score in it . . lots of new faces in both teams. From what I saw it was a great advert for Championship rugby.

I don’t know if it’s a coaching issue, high expectations, but something is not right that we pick up yellow cards too often. |

Looking forward to new beginnings.

Considering (given the stripped-out make-up of the team this year) that I expect Cov to be bottom three, I'll take 'least worst'. Where does that leave Bedford though?

Mind you, looking down on everyone from the lofty perch of top-of-the-league this morning, it doesn't seem so bad.

There’s a poll in clubhouse chat to ascertain people’s view on the decision to go ahead with matches this w/e (and a discussion thread too, so this thread can be kept for scores etc)

Coventry still have more resources than several clubs in this league. They should not be finishing bottom 3. They’ll be mid table. If Bedford played every week like they did today, they would finish bottom. I’m hoping it was a one off due to it being the first game of the season

As has been said, Pirates started really brightly and dominated territory and possession for the first quarter. Richmond defended brilliantly and stayed in the fight, repelling the Pirates rolling maul two or three times. When Richmond eventually got into the Pirates half they looked dangerous, but Pirates defence was also very strong. Having seen how close Richmond pushed Ealing in the pre-season game I guess we shouldn't have been surprised that they put up such a good fight. Pirates started to wear them down and were finishing strongly, scoring three lovely tries; it looked like the BP would come and then came an interception which secured the losing BP for Richmond, which they probably deserved.
