We have all been aware that as the Queen got older so the chances of her dying increased. The Royal household  had her funeral planned years ago, is not sensible for the RFU to have plans in place for the inevitable? Incompetence of the highest level. I ran a small but successful business, I had plans to cover each of my staff leaving and even my own incapacitation

I suspect the RFU will request a 2 minutes silence at the start of a match.

Once again I fear this highlights the financial frailty of some clubs.

Only a one minute silence. There is also some discretion to allow clubs to postpone if they feel it appropriate

Of course, thank you. Only two minutes on Remembrance Day

Premiership Rugby has been able to announce their plans but at the time of writing the RFU website and Twitter feed says nothing since yesterday. Shameful.

Having read the RFU's announcement I have edited my previous comments to tone down my previous ire. The RFU's announcement is well balanced but having read it I still cannot see why they couldn't have come to the same position by 7 a.m. this morning and prevented the further angst and uncertainty

Indeed Eddie. Personally I think it is wrong and that football has got it right.

I won't be attending my club's game tomorrow as a mark of respect for my Queen but I understand others will have a different view.

Twitter feed suggests Coventry v Bedford going ahead.

Daft, lack of leadership from HQ.

But as a Championship supporter, I accept stupidity from the RFU in all things.
Looking forward to new beginnings.

I can see  both sides of the argument. However with so many other sports and  other unions postponing their matches I wonder how much pressure the RFU have been put under by premiership clubs, especially in their current financial predicament .

It just shows how much rugby has changed since it turned 'proffessional'!

That's very nearly a Ghandi quote isn't it?

'what do you think of professional rugby?'

'I think it would be a very good idea.'

With the funeral, tbc Monday 19th, I would hope matches are postponed next weekend, with a decision by Tuesday at the latest.

However I know our Governing Bodies track record.
Looking forward to new beginnings.

kb?

Why are we postponing games next weekend?

DCMS and the RFU have said games can proceed tomorrow so long as the due respect is shown (mins silence) not sure why next Saturday (17th) would be any different. Likelihood is state funeral Monday 19th, national day of mourning (aka another Bank Holiday)

Football is the national game and they decided to go with postponements tomorrow, but easier for their pro-leagues to re-arrange midweek, no so for semi-pro rugby clubs in the Champ, nat 1 and nat 2.

Community game with limited gaps in their truncated season are best placed to show the due respect by gathering and playing.

Lots of ire about the RFU but I received the RFU Community Game Update yesterday saying that a decision would be taken aftercare DCMS meeting on Friday. I’ve then received the Community Game Update today after the meeting so the comms appear to have worked well. By the way, I’m on a cruise in Alaska and the emails found me OK!

I know that everyone at Caldy was completely in the dark about what was intended and last night cancelled a 200 person fund raiser lunch today

BBC

Friday's matches between West Country rivals Bristol and Bath at Ashton Gate and Sale against Northampton have been postponed "as a mark of respect".

Bristol and Bath will play on Saturday at 17:30 BST while Sale v Northampton will take place at 15:00 on Sunday.

All three games scheduled for Saturday and Wasps' visit to Gloucester on Sunday will go ahead as planned.

Matches will start with a minute's silence and players will wear black armbands.

The Rugby Football Union has confirmed that games in lower tiers can also be played - Friday's Championship games between Cornish Pirates and Richmond and Coventry and Bedford Blues will go ahead as planned.

Clubs can postpone a fixture if they have "connections to the Royal Family or those with large numbers of players in the military or emergency services who will be called away to work on official duties as a result", provided both sides agree.

As a result of Northampton's game being moved to Sunday, their following Premiership fixture - at home to London Irish - has been rescheduled for 14:00 on Saturday, 17 September.

Several members of Caldy recieved the above emails.

As above nothing could be decided until DCMS made their decision
