Lions 15 Chinnor 40
The Lions were well in the contest for half the game but a strong second half showing from promotion-chasing Chinnor left them empty handed.
The Lions started strongly and got on the scoreboard first, through a Charlie Myall try following a break out wide from number 8 Nick Cairns. The visitors responded well though and levelled soon afterwards when winger Josh Gillespie sliced through off a well-executed scrum play.
Chinnor took the lead midway through the first half when centre Morgan Passman crashed over but a Dan Lewis penalty kept the home side in touch. Their lead was then extended when some neat interplay led to Conor-Terrah Brockshmidt crossing but the Lions reduced the deficit to just four points at half time following a well finished try in the corner by wing Toby Cousins.
HT Lions 15-19 Chinnor
The Lions started the second half on the front foot again, and following a driving maul attempt that was halted, the ever-impressive Myall drove for the line but was held up agonisingly short and was then penalised for holding on despite appearing to have been tackled high in the process. To make matters even worse for the Lions, Chinnor scored moments later when their first visit to the Lions 22 was converted through a driving maul by Fin Theobold-Thomas.
Chinnor had the luxury of a full front row on the bench and this helped them take control of the contest as they started to dominate the set piece. The victory was sealed when another driving maul try was finished by replacement hooker Alun Walker and a late push over try, scored by Ryan William, sealed a well-deserved win for the away side, albeit by a somewhat flattering scoreline.
Head coach Gareth Collins commented: ''Sometimes you just have to accept that you've been beaten by a better side on the day, and that was the case today. Chinnor are towards the top of the league for a reason and although we competed really well for large parts of the game, they won the big moments. There was still much we can take from today though and we've got two huge games before the Christmas break now that we need to get something out of ".

Caught some interesting Nick Easter thoughts on a post world cup pod-cast today on English props/big 2nd rows...he indicated the right people are out there, just perhaps not picked because viz they turned up to team meetings without their notebookBig smile. He mentioned forwards who he had introduced to Chinnor without naming individuals. Enjoyed it and wonder whether he might be an England coach in the future if his career keeps going in the right direction. Also found out there is a rough part of Cheltenham which was news to me.
