Great day for Exeter with their win and Sam and Joe Simmonds winning Man of Match and European Player of the Year. The club make a profit and have a healthy player pathway.

Thank goodness for the Championship, aspiration is all.

Assuming you can get past the Minimum Standards Criteria and Premiership protectionism, the world's your oyster.

They are an efficient, well drilled but dull team. Hoping Wasps win the Premiership final.

If they are permitted to play, I believe Bristol are on standby in case of more positive tests.
Now Exeter v Bristol would bring back memories.

Seems that Exeter and Bristol have thrown down a challenge to Redruth,  Pirates and Lanson. Let's get this season going.

We don't need Exeter to give us a challenge at Pirates, we know exactly where we want to go, but our struggles with a few small minded dinosaurs have meant the much needed stadium is taking far longer than it should. When we finally get it built we will have a proper crack at emulating what Exeter have achieved. Two of the best players in that team are products of Penzance and Newlyn RFC and the Exeter squad is stuffed with talented Cornishmen; we keep producing them and Exeter benefit. Maybe one day it'll be different.

The trouble is, by then the Premiership will probably be ring fenced and you will have nowhere to go.

Not that I agree with ringfencing!

Seems that Exeter and Bristol have thrown down a challenge to Redruth,  Pirates and Lanson. Let's get this season going.

Not sure I understand the statement.

Redruth is a small Cornish town in one of the least wealthy parts of the country, yet has a side playing at the top end of Level 4.  Punching above our weight I would say.
Lanson - ditto the above at Level 5.

Exeter - the storey is well known, sold their ground at the height of the market and invested in facilities to provide year round income.  How this will fare post Covid19 with total drop off in Conferencing, meetings etc in the age of Zoom and Microsoft Teams time will tell.

Bristol - rugby mad large city with a multi-millionaire backer and a stadium in situ built by football money.  Not much the Reds or Lanson can copy there.

Pirates - Side built solely on a multi-millionaire backer but who invested only in players never in significant permanent facilities, if he goes the side is unviable at Championship level.  The club now wants the government (taxpayer) and Council (ratepayers) to pay a significant contribution to the building of a new stadium which is planned to be a small version of Sandy Park.  Again how the long term plan for the Conference facilities designed to pay for the running of the Stadium and the Pirates rugby & Truro City football ambitions will stand up post Covid19 who can say.

That's a very jaundiced view and a long way from the facts. Our owner has already spent millions of pounds on the Stadium For Cornwall project and there is a robust business plan that has had input from top people in the field. There is a long tern plan to extend the stadium as when needed and the site allows for just that. Exeter did the same thing. But let's not let the facts get in the way of a bit of Pirates bashing. Thankfully many have moved on from the parochial nonsense that has held us back for so long, and there is a very healthy and mutually beneficial relationship between The Pirates and Redruth.

I admire your blind faith Stalwart and support for your club.
But everything I said about the Pirates is true, likewise Exeter.  Two very different paths to success, one has proved much more successful than the other, some of it due to being fortunate to own a ground in the centre of a thriving city which they could sell for good money but the rest was down to sound investment of that rugby.

If 'Our owner has already spent millions of pounds on the Stadium For Cornwall project' there isn't much to show for it.  Not Pirates basing just stating the facts.

Why Launceston? They’re bottom half of level 5. You could have said Camborne - they finished higher last season. Or looked in Devon at Albion and Barnstaple, who are both national league. 😉

Everything you have said is not true. It is a fact that our owner has already spent millions on the stadium project. He was unable to invest in infrastructure while we had the interminable wait for the stadium to be built. There are plans in place for new training facilities as soon as the stadium is up and running. If your motivation for stating facts that are not true is not Pirates bashing what is it?

The exchange above reminds me of my last visit to Launceston, where enjoying pre-game hospitality from some 'blazers' I pointed out out the B&B my wife and I were staying in which could be seen from the club house just the other side of the Taymar.

A wry smile followed my hosts response "You're staying in England then"  Wink

I seem to recall being told that Redruth supporters don't consider Launceston as being in Cornwall.

It's terrible when there's a shortage of Geography teachers in an area isn't it?

Millions on what? Drawings?
Bricks and mortar are infrastructure?
No the truth is whilst Exeter built from the ground up and are a fantastic success  storey, the Pirates spent very heavily on players, but not on infrastructure, over many many years.  Now they want the council and the government to stump up 6 million.

Just repeating this doesn't make it fact. How can our owner spend on building infrastructure until the build begins? A lot of money has been spent on improving the Mennaye, the latest being a complete replacement of the playing surface and improvements to the changing rooms, but this is temporary as it cannot ever be a ground to fit the Premiership criteria. The plan is for this to be a community stadium - hence the relatively small investment hopefully forthcoming from government and council.

I sense a hint of sour grapes here. The Pirates have done well for themselves and have clear ambitions - I don't see why you feel compelled to slate it, Redted, those developments can only be better for the county, and the South West, as a whole and for the sport in general. Ultimately these benefits will no doubt be reaped by your club too. The South West is a great hub for rugby, and fortunately, doesn't get much competition from other winter sports (namely the one with a round ball). Good luck to the Pirates, may they follow the Knights to the promised land....
