London Irish poised for update in takeover saga - report

London Irish’s prospective investor Daniel Thomas Loitz is set to provide fans with a “significant update” on his takeover bid of the former Gallagher Premiership side, according to Sky Sports.

Loitz, a German investor who is director of investment firm Hokulani Ltd, has been in talks with London Irish about a potential takeover of the club, who went into administration in June 2023 and were subsequently suspended from the Premiership.

Sky Sports have reported that Loitz has described these talks as “positive”, and will address fans on Wednesday evening with a “positive update”.Pause

I know little about how to run a business. But it feels to me, two tv shows explain it to my mind.
However if the RFU wanted Alan Sugar as a business partner, they would have the Finger pointed and the ‘Your Fired’.
Elsewhere clubs looking to progress visit a Dragons Den. They cannot offer a profit, or a three year plan, but because someone at the RFU said so, they think they can be a professional sports club.

What worries me in 12 months, the RFU will roll down the steel shutters, and pretend they have got it all sorted, hidden inside their corner shop.
The older I get, the more the RFU leave me confused.

Looking on the LI forum, it appears that Loitz has engaged with six or eight fans by contacting one of them on Facebook, and then invited them to a Teams call in which he outlined his plans.  Apparently he posted the call on his Twitter, but most people who have watched it seem to have more questions than answers as a result.  My understanding on the local grapevine is that there are still two or three interested parties, but that Loitz is the only one going public and trying to paint himself as a saviour in the eyes of the supporters.

thought there might have been some smoke signals by now - anyone seen anything? I guess many of the national media journos are having a break between end of season and summer tours, while others have grown bored of this dragging on - it was described as 'tedious' by the BBC's rugby correspondent a couple of months ago, a regrettable comment from someone in his position...

So no automatic promotion.
Play off home and away.
Subject to criteria (ground capacity too small)

Sounds like nothing has changed

Yes 4 years means you don’t need to bankrupt yourself to try and get there.

I always felt for Moseley, they got by. One season they used some of their money, not on players but they built a small stand and got relegated at the end of the season.

Turned full circle from 1999/2000 when we beat Bedford in a 2 leg play off, i.e. exactly what is being proposed now.

The sceptic in me is concerned about who some of the 14 clubs will be. I would hope that the Championship clubs have made things clear on this to ensure, in their own words, the integrity of promotion and relegation not only between level 1 and 2 but also between levels 2 and 3 too. In essence, I would expect any additions to be made up by promoting from level 3, and not by some souped up method of bringing back clubs who are no longer in the league pyramid. I would like to see the detail behind the headline.

As you say, promotion has to be earned on the field of play & not in a boardroom, so please excuse my scepticism.

How we weren’t given a 3rd penalty try when battering your try line and were given several penalties, I will never know! However we also dropped the ball with a walk in too. The match report makes us sound like Jersey! Haha!
