There is a rumour that players at TJs are on retainers this season hence not a lot of leavers but I couldn't find anything to back that up so assume it is a rumour

I suspect the rumour is correct.

Squad of 40 on £3k = £120,000

Some more so say, £150,000

If rumours are correct Curtis Barnes (though he is always rumoured to be leaving) and Harrison Sims

£3k / 26 games = £115per game. Think you can triple that for the rumoured match fees TJs pay, that’s before any retainer & bonus is added.

Not knocking them by the way, if they can afford it then fair play to them. Can’t help but think some investment in their facilities would be better suited but hey ho

I am amazed how much people know about other clubs' finances.

Barnes had 8 stalwart players retire/move on at the end of the season, including our big centre Pete Weightman (back to his first club in Keswick) and our talismanic scrum half Josh Davies and prop Alex Wood who have both hung up their boots, whilst young prop Rory Marsh has moved to Blackheath…I went to meet the new recruits after pre-season training this week and they all look v fit and young, we are definitely in a rebuilding phase this season and it will take time for the team to find its rhythm once we start the campaign in September…I think we will have 7 of last year’s final game squad starting against Oxford Harlequins…very excited to see how things go none the less..

Went to pre-season

Money, money, money!
Amongst other signings the good news for us is that former England Under 20s lock Josh Pettet is returning to the squad after a year's "sabbatical".

I've heard a rumour Westcombe Park are playing their first team squad £50k a man this season.

Must be true then.

Fellow Predictors/Camquin and all,
Sorry to divert from all the close season news of player movements etc., but we have to report we have just lost one of our number.
Ghanian Eagle (GE), one of our keenest and most successful predictors and contributors is no longer with us.
Havant Tony and Big Eddie (from Caldy) especially have built a great rapport with GE through the Rolling Maul website over the past seasons.
It was so appropriate that GE finished top of the table for the final week of last season (and by a full 3 points!) and overall a magnificent 5th. He was tickled pink with that result, knowing what lay ahead for him.
He will be greatly missed and most fondly remembered by all of us at Sevenoaks RFC.

Sad news....not sure if I actually met GE....may have without realising...but as you say he was one of us!
We (BSE) are also mourning the passing of Mark Williams who had been 1st XV Manager for many years until health issues forced him to play more of an assistant role...Mark would be well known to most coaches and managers in N2 (old style or East) he would have been 68 today! (Cancer is a b"£$%^)

In terms of players, as per Barnes, we have seen some key players move on....Matt Bursey (back row), Will Christie (9) both heading to Oz and Kodie Hawkins (10 /15) going home to NZ, a couple more have retired so it will be interesting to see how we redevelop too...

Really sorry to hear about these true gentlemen passing. The big C can be vicious to a lot of people. We will all hold memories of those who have died and their contribution to our enjoyment of our sport and life in general.

Yes, condolences.
I am not sure if I ever met GE, but I certainly felt I knew and liked him.
