Congratulations France! ClapClapClap  Undoubtedly the dream start to the Olympics that the organisers were hoping for.

Commiserations Fiji.  Hugely entertaining but with such a partisan crowd backing the opposition it was probably a challenge too far.

Anyway, tomorrow GB Women take to the pitch in search of gold*.

Sunday
2:30pm Ireland vs GB
6:30pm Australia vs GB

Monday
1:00pm GB vs South Africa
Quarter-finals from 8:00pm

Tuesday
Placement matches, semi-finals and medal matches from 1:30pm

(*other medals (of lesser value/stature) are available)

Being the Olympics in particular it's a pity the media didn't seem to realise the French team had more than one man.

It's always the way.

I'm sure there are other gymnasts than Simone Biles but she is the star.

Indeed Paul. I don't have a problem with Biles though (I'm sure she will be pleased!) because she is at least an Olympic champion who deserves the spotlight at the Olympics.

My (old fashioned I know) objection is to the millionaire "drop ins" who fancy turning up at the Olympics to pick up a medal and then generally depart the day after rather than stay and support their team mates in their events.

Have to say, I'm not that optimistic about a GB medal after seeing us get played off the park by the Aussies yesterday - different levels. Mind you, France looked pretty average on day 1 of men's event, so as long as you make the QFs, anything's possible...

If they can beat South Africa, they could well end up second in the pool.
That should earn a QF against the USA.
Anything is possible.
Either way, they have outperformed the men.
