Interesting read RamSale.

Looks like Blackheath are the team to watch out for based on it.

I don't really understand why some teams don't say who they've signed and let go though. Surely better to keep supporters in the loop?

Slightly surprised that they say Esher wouldn’t say. We have announced several signings and I have posted them on here. TRP don’t look at Club websites or this blog, it appears.

One more new name this week:

Scott Butterworth, hooker, from Exeter Uni

Darlington Mowden Park have signed Ethan Hall-Lyon, who played for Fylde last season.

He can apparently play Number 8, openside flank, and lock, so could be a replacement for Ollie Hodgson, who retired at the end of last season.

Pack looks very strong but I’m still very concerned and also disappointed that a new scrum half has not been announced

Knowing there wasn’t a natural 9 retained by DMP last year you would think they’d be keen to settle supporters nerves

It is a little concerning that we are close to the season opener and there isn't a single scrum-half on the books, but I hope that will change in the next few days as further signings are announced.

Speaking of new signings, Mowden have brought in a 21-year-old hooker, Jacob Newnam, who previously played for Glamorgan Wanderers, Barnard Castle, and Wensleydale. Because of these new additions and no-one leaving apart from Ollie's retirement, the pack could be stronger than last season.

Darlington Mowden Park are delighted to announce the signing of George Speakman. The 24 year-old scrum half joins the club ahead of the 2024/25 National One campaign, and has already linked up with the squad's pre-season preparations. Asked about the switch to DMP, Speakman said: "I’ve really enjoyed pre season at DMP, and I’m looking forward to the season ahead."

The former Northampton Saints academy scrum half joins the club having recently represented Guisborough. Speakman has previously earned England Counties U18 honours, and DMP Director of Rugby Garry Law was excited to see the young scrum half in action: "We're pleased to have George join up with us this pre season. We didn't know a lot about George but he has shown up very well during pre season and we are looking forward to seeing him get going when the games come around."

Big step up from Counties 1 last season to National 1 this season for the new Mowden scrum half - he has big boots to fill after Pascoe leaving for Chinnor.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see a duel registered scrum half from Falcons, who have about 6 or 7 on their books, to be added to Mowdens squad.

Ollie Hodgson hasn't retired, he's left to play elsewhere

Louis PeaHuckleberry becomes DMP's fourth signing of the summer ahead of the upcoming National One season. The second rower returns to the North East having graduated from Loughborough University, and was excited to get going: "Looking forward to the season starting, after 4 years away in Loughborough it’s good to be playing for a club close to home."

PeaHuckleberry joins having previously represented Newcastle Falcons academy, and is able to cover both second row and back row. Speaking about the latest addition to the squad, DMP Forwards Coach Joe Cain commented: "Louis comes to us after graduating from Loughborough University where he has played for the last few years. He’ll add some size into the second row, giving us another good lineout option and someone who will add some weight to our scrum. He’s fit in really well and someone I’m looking forward to seeing play in a Mowden shirt."

Although I understand the desire to dissuade swearing on this forum, can't something be done so we can see the name of Mowden's latest signing?

Is anyone going to be offended by the name of a male peahen?

Callum Pascoe was brilliant for us last season, appearing in every game, and becoming a reliable goalkicker by the end of the season.

I agree that moving from Counties to National 1 is a big jump, so it'll be interesting to see how George Speakman goes in the preseason games.

As you say, Newcastle have more scrum halves than they can give gametime to, so it makes sense for the Falcons, the fringe players, and for Mowden to have at least one duel registered with DMP, possibly to play the full season so he is sharp and match fit in case he is needed at Kingston Park.
