Phone ran out of battery at the RAG. 2nd Half was much better than the first half for Ealing, mostly powered by bringing on club captain Rayn Smid, who re-energized and re-organized the side. The main problem that I saw from Ealing today (and recently in general) is that they are not attacking the ball. When there's a chip over, a loose ball, or a clearance, they are too happy to fall back and hope that the ball comes to them instead of running onto it. Two of Richmond's tries came from that kind of situation. The only player that I'll give a pass on that is Simon Uzokwe, who was immense again today. Richmond played an almost error-free match, and pushed Ealing hard all day. Of note: this was almost certainly the largest Ealing away contingent that I've ever seen. I'd estimate maybe three hundred.
Totally agree with the above. Rayn Smid poking the metaphorical forefinger into 14 chests made all the difference. Ozokwe was outstanding, but the run away player of the match was the Richmond fly half - exquisite kicking all afternoon BUT never predictable - look and learn, Ealing.

The Championship table 2021-2022 (championshiprugby.co.uk)

Half time this season after 10 games & Ealing  just 3 points clear of Pirates with Jersey & Donny following behind but not out of sight - still a great contest.

Defo a day for up the jumper rugby you'd have thought but not to be. In the first half the Reds were great; dominant up front, lineout working fine, full of enterprise and flair with both wingers seeing more ball in 40 minutes than they usually do in a season and getting three good tries. The finish for the first one in the top corner was excellent with the wet ball to contend with on the floor.
Then the half time break, bars full of happy Reds fans enjoying a beer and thinking this is done and dusted and predicting the final score. The team perhaps thought on similar lines and went to sleep for the second half and watched Coventry get not only back into their game but scoring tries and deserving to pull almost level.
Hope that the players get a helluva hairdryer for that sloppy finish.
Ok did enough on the day but you cannot just switch off at this level. Anyone 'd think this was England in Ozzie.........

Agree with your analysis 'coaster... and yes Harvey Biljon was unhappy with the way Jersey tuned out in final half-hour. Fair play to Cov, with an injury list even longer than our's, to get back to 29-24 - by the time the game restarted it was the last play, so with the kick going deep they need to go 85m to get an equalising try - would have been quite the miracle comeback. Mind you, 2 or 3 Jersey penalty concessions could still have done it, but as it was they battled for a few phases but were then forced into an error and it was FT.

Reds 7 behind leaders & 4 behind CP - worth pointing out that we have a game in hand...

So probably not out of sight mate and I seem to think Ealing may have to travel to St Peter in the second half of the season...... now that could be a decent game to watch.

A good win by Donny against Nottingham today in dismal, cold and grey conditions at Castle Park. It was incessant rain for most of the second half. Donny played well and won convincingly but it was mainly through the forwards, the backs were redundant for a lot of the match. On a more sober note, only 812 people turned up to watch. We’ve still not got a crowd above 1,000 this season, attendances seem to be on the decline and I don’t know why. Particularly when we’re having our best season for a while. Just a couple of other points to make, firstly there was a lengthy injury in the second half to a Nottingham player which required the stretcher and the game to be stopped for 10 minutes or so, obviously hope he’s OK because it looked nasty. Secondly, I thought the referee today was excellent, Sara Cox is one of the better referees in this league. She doesn’t feel the need to make herself the “star of the show “ like some of the male referees do. I thought she was pretty fair and consistent with both teams.

3 tries for Will Brown v Coventry - YouTube

A decent scrum effort from the forwards before the third.

I cant remember another match at St Peter when all 8 tries were scored by the team playing up the slope!

Anyone from Nottingham know when your article on last weekends match will appear on the website - I always like to read the oppositions viewpoint on the game.
Onward and Upwards C'mon Donny!
