Just been told the Community Team at my club were made Redundant on Monday am sure this is happening across rugby at the moment these guys have spent up to 8 years working for the club and the only reason they have lost their job is C19 could I suggest we ignore some of the stupid arguments re promotion and relegation and discuss ways we can support all our clubs and their staff at this time. Before anyone makes a comment can I confirm their wages and costs were paid for from funds raised totally independent from any RFU monies

Clarifies the situation regarding government support for employed sports staff or is it merely cash flow?

 Certainly focuses the mind.

Presumably they’ve been “furloughed” so they will get 80 per cent of their usual wages paid by the government?

That would be the sensible option and they retain their employment.

I suspect some will use the situation for a financial reset

When RFU are taking stick from many posters on this site, time for some plaudits - yesterday's RFU Community Update includes a link to an excellent summary of government support for community clubs - succinct and extremely helpful to club volunteers at this stressful time for all. Hats off to RFU for this piece of work. It is downloadable as a pdf from RFU website at https://www.englandrugby.com/dxdam/94/943f63ce-6a04-4e1c-87a1-aa30bea52051/COVID%2019%20-%20support.pdf?utm_source=270320CGU&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=270320CGU&utm_content=Mens&spMailingID=9035235&spUserID=MjY5ODA2ODYwMTcyS0&spJobID=1475051769&spReportId=MTQ3NTA1MTc2OQS2

Conversely, I've just watched Bill Sweeney's video - see https://jwp.io/s/JExZ5U9w, which reiterates/analyses the RFU "£7m" (actually £6.7m) support package for the Community game. This is essentially £1.4m of money that is due to clubs anyway, deferral of loan repayments of £335k due this quarter and the launch of a £5m loan fund (all of which will have to be repaid) - so, whilst this package may be a welcome boost to short term cashflow over the summer, it doesn't put any extra funds into the clubs. But at the same time, the video mentions £3m of savings to be taken from the Community game as part of RFU's immediate Coronavirus cost saving measures. It is not clear where these savings will come from but the net impact of the overall "support" package appears to be negative for the Community game.
