And does anyone really think the RFU are going to give Caldy a million pounds a year .

1) Ealing money can buy happiness ( Full Time )
2) Coventry good set up New Hotel coming, strong team ( Getting ready for Prem ) ( Full Time ish )
3) Bedford again good set up ground etc ( Links with Saints I think )
4) Doncaster
5) Pirates
6) Hartpury ( Gloucester )
7) Ampthill ( soft spot for Ampthill and strong saracens links )
8) London Scottish ( Harlequins / I was at the last game of the season against Nottingham and I think there were more Harlequins players in the squad than Scottish which can't be right . Criminal for Richmond)
9) Nottingham ( Ties with Leicester )
10) Caldy (Informal ties with Anselmians, Birkenhead Park and occasionally Chester)
11) Cambridge

Why shouldn't Caldy get a million pounds a year? It is likely they will spend it wisely and get some more benches and a new oil filter for the tractor.

But anyway Stuart from Nottingham thank you for adding a little bit of spice to Caldy's first league match at the Paton Field Stadium against Nottingham !!......

I think this is a very perceptive post and may well be on the mark. A new Prem 2 which would be based on a "buy in" model could include the Wasps, WW & LI and another 7 clubs who pass the RFU proper person test which might include minimum ground facilities and regional spread. The buy in might cost the new clubs several million pounds to buy the share in P2 but the initial cost would probably be recorded as a debt in the first instance and be repaid over a number of years from a proportion of the annual RFU payment. Several of the championship clubs like Ealing, Cov, Donny, Blues & Pirates might pass the RFU invite test but we may see a few new franchises based in places like Teesside, SELNEC or the South East. The remaining Championship clubs could be merged into the National system as part time clubs. The core motive behind P2 will be to raise money for the RFU not share it out.
Dont kick it. Pick it up and GO FORWARD.

Agree - I've got no particular confidence that a 'Premiership 2' would necessarily be based on the Championship. It might well involve some of the current level 2 clubs, once they've passed some sort of audit/audition, but that's not quite the same thing...

Half expect Sweeny to accept a Franchise bid from USA, A Rugby League outfit and Manchester City.
The older I get, the more the RFU leave me confused.

Not saying I wouldn't give Caldy a million pounds. Really enjoyed our trip to see Nottingham steal a win . Lovely club nice atmosphere and a credit to rugby. If only Bill Sweeney could see.  I am saying the RFU won't give them that kind of money .

Being  friends with a number of RFU community coaches who were all made redundant and no longer go into Schools that don't play rugby to encourage participation and growing the support base . Seeing the mess of a fixture list one of my sons has to put up with and seeing first hand the decline in number of adults playing rugby.  Also seeing the reduction in numbers in the Juniors and minis at Nottingham. Along with another son who coaches at an Independent school where he says children are choosing not to play rugby. I do worry about what Bill is up to in terms of being on the brink something spectacular. Perhaps if Fiji win at the weekend we may see the back of him and his successful tenure.
