The key is getting those Under 20s game time at their clubs so they can continue to develop and that's where both Ireland and France have an advantage. Ireland because they have control over the clubs and France because they seem to be picking up far more games at pro club level.

So true, but we all know the majority will sit around the prem clubs for a year or three, then get picked up by Champ clubs when discarded

Good point. I wonder if a change of tact is on the horizon though. England U20 starting fly half vs France was George Makepeace-Cubitt, who plays for Rams in Nat 1 and is not DR with any professional club since Irish folded.
With more senior England players perhaps destined to play league rugby abroad and therefore not eligible to play for England, there may be more room for youngsters to step up. Going to be an interesting few years for the home nations before the 2027 RWC in Oz.

Some contentious TMO decisions this 6 nations. Obviously the Scotland France was the main one but 2 in the Ireland v Scotland game which were probably 99% tries
If the referee cannot award the try because he cannot see a definite grounding. Then he should say so and leave it to the TMO to decide. Not say the on field decision is NO TRY leaving his mate the TMO to overrule him That’s what all the cameras are there for If the TMO is 90% certain it’s a try then the attacking side should be awarded the try.

Former international ref Rob Debney wrote in Times yesterday that the TMO intervention for Ben Earl tackle in 78th minute on FRAvENG was "beyond a joke"

It's funny, Andy Goode tweeted something similar on Saturday night, and about 90% of the replies disagreed with him. Personally I think it's pretty clear that Earl hasn't used his arms and therefore the decision is the correct one. My concern with that call is the TMO interjecting without being asked. Are we reaching the point where the game is refereed by a team of three sitting in front of a bank of screens and feeding the decisions to someone on the pitch whose only role is to relay the messages?

I don’t think the top referees pay any attention to what the team’s captain says and if it’s not the captain speaking will tell the player to keep his gob shut or he’s off for 10

True. Just like how the ref in the Italy-Wales game told the Welsh waterboy to shut up or he'd be sent off.

The welsh waterboy (Neil Jenkins, who you'd think would know better but he was never shy of dishing it out) will likely face a pitch ban.
