Surprised they were still awake! Good win though.

Just disappointing that for most teams in a year when there is no real penalty, they can’t be more adventurous. It’s warm/dry so no excuse. The main shame is that this webpage cannot get some sponsorship for every try named after it. Wouldn’t have been quids in! People will switch off if that’s all they do

Bedford came back strongly in the second half and had a couple of passes gone to hand it could have been a lot closer. Not a complete performance from Pirates, but very happy with the 5 points against a dangerous team. Big blow for us that Scully picked up a nasty looking shoulder injury so we're very thin in the 10 position.

Nottingham score a consolation try in the last minute. Conversion missed.

The ref blows his whistle for full time.

Ampthill 31-15 Nottingham.

A solid win for Ampthill against another well established semi-professional Championship team. Their handling, scrummaging, lineout, and defence seems to be improving steadily. No worries there. There were also no yellow cards. My main concern is the number of penalties given away, especially when near to the opposition's try line.

Nevertheless, currently 4th in the table, the team now have two weeks off to consolidate and regroup.

Already there seems to be a breakaway group Ealing, Pirates and Doncaster are more than one match ahead of the next group. Match of round 4 has to be Knights vs Pirates. Pirates could do us a favour by capitulating and conceding the 5 points (sorry as the hosts it wouldn’t do for us to lose). That would really put the mockers on Sarries master plan.

If we’re going to be Machiavellian, try this: Ealing beat Saracens, Pirates beat Ealing, both Ealing and Pirates take five points from all other games; Ealing v Pirates play off, Saracens stay put. Not entirely out of the question.

I like the way you think, but I'd add: Ealing beat Pirates in playoffs, Ealing promoted. Ealing play in Loftus Road or Griffin Park (not sure when this will be demolished) next year. ;)

Sorry gents let’s not mix things up here, the clear and obvious outcome is that the Knights win through, joined next year by either by the Pirates or Ealing......

True apart from 'Saracens stay put' - I suspect They will be promoted whatever (even if it means going straight to 14 team league)

The “clowns” are Rhodri McAtee and Murray Westren, Rhodri was a Welsh 7s international and a Pirates crowd pleaser for several seasons.
From where I was sitting, Atkinson was yellow carded for going off his feet and leading with his shoulder.
I’m sure Will Carrick- Smith would agree with your description of him as a “kid”.

Wouldn't it be better if teams simply try their best to win every match and at the end of the season the top two compete for promotion? I personally hope Pirates and Donny are in the mix in the playoffs but if its Sarries and/or Ealing instead then good luck to them.

I actually liked the commentators a lot better than the radio ones!

Atkinson couldn’t be off his feet as the player had not been tackled.

Felt Blues deserved more, but Pirates were a little more clinical.  The big turning point was when Blues down to 14 went for the maul, Frost (2) clearly pulled it down and got away with it. 1 minute later Pirates after a great kick had a 5m lineout and scored. A 12 point swing.

Then the last 20 was like France v Wales - same colours but Wood didn’t want to give Pirates any yellows.

I expected us to lose but the teams were closer than I expected.

Funny how ones perspective is completely different depending on who you support. The ref was good IMO. Although the yellow seemed pretty harsh Atkinson clearly dived on the player who was lying on the floor and the ref, who was very close to the incident, saw an elbow to the face. To say he didn't want to yellow card any Pirates players is a bit of a stretch. I certainly didn't see when Frost "clearly pulled it down and got away with it." But I was looking through my one Pirate eye!

CPK is clearly joking, I spotted the 'Carrot-esque' whimsy a mile off!

April already shaping up as an interesting month with, over successive weekends:
  • Rd 5 CP v ET
  • Rd 6 DK v Sar
  • Rd 7 Sar v ET
What happens then will determine whether May and June are equally interesting. And yes, I know the other 7 clubs will also be seeking to influence matters every time they tackle one of the teams who are setting the pace...

I think the biggest factors in determining the play off candidates will be:
  • The extra "home" matches due to the early travel restrictions to Jersey - probably helps Donny but works against Pirates who travel to St Peter for their last game - unless that one is rearranged and played in Cornwall.
  • The early fixtures against Sarries prior to the international players returning may have helped Pirates.
  • The history of teams like Blues, Nottingham and Jersey who so far this term have probably under performed "turning up for their big game" and beating the favourites.
  • Bonus points in the matches between the four main candidates.
I hope that travel restrictions allow me to go to see the play offs and if so I would hope to support Donny and/or Pirates compete in a great game of rugby.

Dont kick it. Pick it up and GO FORWARD.

Just to say there's no indication that any of Jersey's three home games might have to be rearranged - we expect them to be played here on the scheduled dates.

Any team can have a bad day and the one thing you can say for certain is that prediction, even on here, is unreliable.

Purely wishful thinking on my part mate I should have Jab2 status by the end of May and a trip to Penzance to see a match would certainly tick the box for me.
