Just had a message to say that as a female ionians supporter was clapping both sides on and in particular cheering our team onto the pitch a student gave her the wannker sign.

She has travelled the country supporting our side and has many happy memories of times in clubhouses far and wide but this is just unacceptable and she will never return to Loughborough to watch another game.

Perhaps a little word in the ears of the young chaps who play and watch the game there that the standards to which our game should be held are light years above this.  If they get their kicks from doing this to pensioners then perhaps another sport may be more accommodating of their low standards.

Congratulations on the late win.

Dale 26 (1) Sedge 43 (5)

Great game at the Avenue. I thought at halftime it was going to be a deserved home win. However, Sedge had other thoughts and ran in a superb try that the whole crowd enjoyed. After that it was Sedges back play that took over. Always a pleasure to be at the Avenue. G&T time now. GP where are you.

All the best

WOW

Islander ‘roughing it’ in the North, now there’s a first. Not sure about the ‘northern twang’ though 😂😂.

I have say to in regards and respect to the fact their great start, Bournevile are our next home game in two weeks. Question: What type of side are Bournville as that was a huge, brilliant effort today.

I know (watching this season videos) they play  like Sedge and  love to throw the ball around but having said that, they must have  had parity in the pack to take on that monster tight 8. Or was it yellows and reds that changed things (no disrespect  intended) Any ideas from anyone who actually attended the game.

All the best

Don't worry ST, safely installed back in my Island 'des-res' now after a splendid week in Yorkshire including Roth v Dale; will hopefully get a wee bit more 'NW' on next visit - a G&T is overdue... Beer

I look forward to that day with great anticipation and pleasure. 👍 BTW we have unearthed the next  Dave McCormack. Seriously. It’s a double take.

Good luck to the Reds this season

Our inability to convert 5 pointers into 7 pointers nearly came back to haunt us today. Totally dominant in the scrum Roth went over 7 times but only succeeded with two conversions, and after 79 minutes that poor return looked to have cost them the win. Step up Hayes last kick of the game to spare our blushes and, as if by magic, turn 2 points into 5.

I regret to say that I had never heard of Bournville before the fixtures came out, but the choccos certainly didn’t melt away, instead traded punches with a former heavy weight and nearly landed the knock out blow with an attacking display reserved for a team with all the confidence of a team with a 20 point lead in the division below before COVID struck, with 6 tries of their own helped by a great kicking display by their player coach, Mitch McGahan, who converted 5 of their tries and added 2 penalties.

So a get out of jail card played by Roth and a great display by Choccos who took away 2 bonus points, but it could so easily have been 5.

The exuberance of youth.
When I go to Loughborough I expect poor manners and sheer enthusiasm. This is what we were treated to during the match, both on and off the field.
It would be a shame if the immature actions of one or a few prevent you from attending again. You can't let the idiot few win. Remember that they have yet to develop any wit and must therefore resort to ruder more descriptive ways of communication. Laugh it off!

The match was very good. The Students provided early pressure in both halves and we came back in later part of both. We probably should have nicked it. However, the Students are fit (as you would expect),  they have a very good back-line and never gave up. They will trouble many N2N clubs this season, until they get bogged down on the heavier pitches to come.

Personally, I think Students should be playing against Students, be it Wednesday or Saturday, but that is another subject.
