If Prem 2 comes into existence in 25/26 does that mean more promoted from Nat 1 to make up the numbers, no sign(yet) of any franchise buyers on the horizon, so will there be less relegations again? Do you think we will know any of it before the season starts?

Still a lot of smoke and mirrors though, no actual detail apart from a bit more dosh for Prem 2 participants, which nice.

The team winning National One in 2024/25 will be promoted to the new Tier 2 with one other club joining in addition This may (or may not) be the team finishing second in National One; the process for selection will be managed by the new Tier 2 Board and approved by RFU Council.”

So as Coventry correctly said that promotion is decided by the premierships cartel… will this not become the Premiership 2’s cartel?

Is this not the very thing which stinks with the current situation of promotion to the premiership but it’s just another level down? The top two teams should be promoted regardless of anything if they finish 1st and 2nd. If they play on a cow field then that’s what they play on, if they win enough games over 80 minutes then they deserve to be promoted.

I see this all the time in rugby and football everyone wants a fair deal from whatever is above them but never looks down with the same view. The EFL want more money from the Premier League because of having more viewer's etc… then the national league say…. Well hang on a minute we want more money from you for the same reasons…. Well no because that’s different… anyway I think everyone gets the point.

There is also the issue of what the Prem 2 will do with current Championship clubs who do not meet Prem 2 criteria will this mean forced relegations and additional Nat 1 promotions (subject to them meeting Prem 2 Criteria)

If the RFU stick by what they said in January then the answer is No! Clubs won’t be relegated but, for example, if they have no stand they will not get TV coverage ( if there is any).

when translated

"The team winning National One in 2024/25 will be promoted to the new Tier 2 with one other club joining in addition This will be Wasps by any means possible"

And importantly, no relegation from The Champ this coming season.
No jeopardy, again. Not good for the competition IMO.

I would put good money on closed door conversations going on right now with the RFU and potential investors for Wasps, Worcester and Irish trying to reassure them that if they invest their cash then they will make sure they have a fast tracked route to the Premiership. I’d imagine they are also adding that they intend to get them back and then maybe add ‘another’ before pulling up the drawbridge again as to control any potential losses later down the line.

It’s always smoke and mirrors when big money/business is involved.

Look at the mess football is in with FFP, Eye watering losses, ‘dodgey’ money, clubs being liquidated.

We as a nation as always are following the American way… give it another decade or so and if you don’t play elite sport then you won’t play at all. Sport is becoming more about entertainment and about the ‘event’ rather than the actual match.

The RFU assured us the week b4 last that we would know this by start of new season... see extract below from their statement:

“The final decision on the exact format of the 14-team league will be made by the Tier 2 board no later than August 1, 2024, with the mechanism for any new teams in the league to be decided by council and announced ahead of the new season.

“This timeline preserves the commitment that we have made to ensure that all clubs have at least 12 months’ notice of any major changes to the RFU leagues.”

We have still to get the criteria for Prem 2, there have been some provisional announcement's re facilities but will this affect promotion in the future from Nat 1 into Prem 2? How many clubs in Nat 1 will meet the proposed ground criteria, and if they do not but win Nat 1, will they be refused promotion?

You would have thought they would be allowed a couple of years to upgrade facilities to the requisite standards

There will be a few
Blackheath, Richmond, DMP, Roslyn Park, Plymouth, Sale, Sedge, Mose, Rams, Esher
Possibly Roth but lights may be an issue if not updated since we last played there
Not been to Dings new ground, Only Stortford and Lions without stands which I think was part of the criteria
So many Christians not enough Lions

Please stop applying common sense logic to the situation!
