Well we finished a very short season last Saturday on a high. 2nd string lost to Luffbra, 1st string beat Cambridge Uni, both great matches in the sunshine, we also had a Schools Tournament with Whitgift, Epsom, Sedbergh and Millfield playing. Good tight finishes in all matches! Lots of spectators obeying the social distancing rules, with the possible exception of the Epsom College End-of-year party supporting their 1st XV! Big bar and bbq takings will help the cash flow until we start match days again in August.
Lots of new players during the last 4 weeks, contract signing happening! Short but sweet month of adapted rugby!

Well done, Leicester Lions had 3 games using their development team, good social with the first team in fancy dress supporting and running the bar-b-q.

Sounds good fun! Watching rugby, drinking with friends and enjoying the sunshine was a great way to spend a day!

The game I saw was downright dangerous. No scrums or mauls, everyone piling into each other at great speed. Concussions galore.

The game speeds up without scrums or mauls, which is why matches are only 35 minute halves. I haven't seen an increase in concussions, if anything I've seen improved tackle skills, putting the opponent on the ground to create a ruck rather than holding them up for a maul. It has helped some of our bigger players improve their carrying but the pace has also helped our backs when the game has broken up and defences are slower to realign.
Hopefully the adapted laws are now behind us and I look forward to proper rugby returning in August, as do all of our props!
