The one thing that makes rugby so inclusive and enjoyable and they want to remove it, I don't think I will ever go to a Premiership rugby match again.

These clowns running the game don’t have a clue do they?. That idea is absolutely rancid. Mixing with away supporters and having good natured banter whilst watching the game is what makes rugby unique.

This may have something to do with attendees being fans not supporters - man in the street as opposed to those with a link to rugby as a player, member, parent etc

Probably, if they put it in the regulations. But I really hope they don't do it.

This should be left well alone.
I can see why they're looking at this, but eventually we'll end up losing what we have to the same tribalism as football. I hope they aren't thinking about doing this for internationals too.

So after agreeing to televise every single game live for the money the Premiership are now worried about the lack of atmosphere?

No need to make this "official". When Ealing went to Bath, the supporters association just suggested where to buy tickets.

Agreed.
Most supporter groups do this.

The Premiership should try wobbling their heads.

It's not the RFU but the Premiership clubs. |

I’ve always argued that rugby clubs have supporters, soccer clubs have fans. The latter is short for fanatics so keeping them apart makes sense.

Exactly. This is what attracted me to Rugby in the first place about 30 years or so ago having been a lifelong footie fan. I mean I can just imagine me now when we get a try and shouting at the guy next to me who follows the opposition “You’re not singing any more. You’re not singing any more” or “come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough!!” I mean it’s just not cricket is it? Thoughts of a visiting kop at a Rugby game going Boing boing baggie baggie aka West Brom. No the great beauty of Rugby, and Rugby Union in particular, is the social side and mixing. Most football grounds you have to be careful which pub you go in beforehand or find the “away friendly pubs”. I have never found a visit to a Rugby Union club intimidating, which can’t be said at a football game. I have fallen out of love with football because of the mentality, the lack of connection between club and supporters and the absolute hassle of going to a game, not to mention the cost. Supporters are more and more regarded as customers or punters whereas Rugby, and particularly, my club has given me the best sporting days I have ever had. Remember when we won our play off game against Bedford we were actually consoling some of their supporters. If that had been football it would never have happened. Oddly though the one thing Rugby can learn from football is the administration side in terms of finances. Yes the bulk of the money stays at the top, but it does trickle down the pyramid. The Rugby Administration can’t see beyond England and the Premiership, which to me seems to be a basket case of a league, given reports about the finances of numerous clubs at that level, but see fit to impose criteria for entry and now imposing their will on the Championship. Sadly it’s these people that make suggestions as the one mentioned that seem to hold sway, but that could be said about a lot of things these days. If only people like us ran the world eh? |

Sponges grow in the ocean. That just amazes me. I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be if that didn't happen.
