As he says in the interview, who in their right mind would commit (as required) to build a 10k capacity by year three in the prem when the financial imbalance is perpetuated by the RFU?

The stupid thing is:
1. Championship club get lets funding as not an A shareholder 2. Championship is therefore likely to be relegated in 1 year especially if 3. All funds they get and more needs to go into a stand As I have said before the Championship club having a smaller stadium only means they are the ones suffering as they can't maximise gate receipts and I am sure in time as all the Premiership clubs have done, they will slowly expand as funds and certainty permit. You could bypass the rules anyway, just get someone to write that they will loan the club money if they get promoted and then tear up the agreement later on, as the person pulls the plug. Isn't that what happened to some of these Premiership clubs that went bust?

Torygraph agrees MSA stinks. Champ clubs were fool's for not getting all details agreed upfront. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/2024/10/12/premiership-promotion-relegation-play-off-in-doubt/

Time to bring this mendacious farce to an end. Ten Harlequins players in the "Scottish" XV that beat Donny yesterday. The PRL want all Tier 2 clubs to be like that, linked to a Tier 1 club. The Championship clubs are being played. How could decisions on minimum standards for promotion be decided before there is even a chair of the Tier 2 Board? How could what the RFU claim they want to be a "professional league" not be allowed any representation on the "professional" Rugby Board? Not only do PRL and the RFU not want Championship clubs in the top tier, they don't even want them in their own tier - they want them to go bust and become zombies. They have been starved of money so they have to rely on the crumbs from the Tier 1 table. Completely agree about involving the CMA. This is probably the clearest example of restraint of trade and unfair competition in the entire business world, let alone the sports business world.

Excellent comments from Rams C Exec, Gary Reynolds, in TRP:
Extract: "..... Reynolds remains baffled as to why Wasps in particular are looking to build a brand new stadium and saddle themselves with more debt having gone to the wall two years ago owing £100 million. Whenever you put a sports club up for sale it attracts the wrong type of people they all come out of the woodwork to get in the limelight. I think that is what is happening with those consortiums. The logical thing to do if you wanted to resurrect Wasps would be to go and buy another franchise and rename it. Wasps could go for Ealing, for example, which is not too far from their North London roots and then you don't have to worry about all the debt..... ....... Of the three (L Irish, Wasps, Wuss) of them the one that should have a chance of getting back in would be Worcester because their debt wasn't massive and they do have the ground. Irish and Wasps are just basket cases he added....... ..... Reynolds is a firm believer in meritocracy. If we finish second or third we don't expect a leg up, National One needs to be won. Wasps Trailfinders sounds a good idea. Good for Wasps, increased spectators, and helps Ealing's long term investment options.
But then what do I know!! Edited by FHLH - 13 Oct 2024 at 17:31 |

It’s something I’ve wondered for a while, Wasps amateurs are just down the road in Ealing and I've never bought the idea that you
can’t have another big team in London. But for it to happen would prob mean the departure of Ben Ward and he holds all the power at Ealing so I can’t see it happening voluntarily.
You can bet though that if it did come to pass, the PRL would miraculously adjust the min entry requirements to allow Vallis Way to host Premiership matches! |

I listened to a great podcast last night on the Rams website Facebook page with Gary Reynolds and offered a great insight into Rams, which was great for me as I didn’t know a deal about them. I was very pleased to hear that he regards Rotherham as one of his favourite away trips and was very complementary about us. A link to the interview can be found here: https://www.ramsrugby.com/news/podcast-season-three-episode-two-2878926.html Sounds like a great set up. Edited by Rothman2 - 13 Oct 2024 at 19:25 |

Laurel & Hardy joined the foreign legion. The commander asks Stan why he joined. Stan replied,
“I came to forget”. “What did you want to forget?” asked the Commander. Stan replied “ I forgot”. |

I believe up to 22 clubs have applied for entry into Prem 2 . It will be interesting to see who and how the management committee give entry to and if they are going to exclude any clubs currently in Prem 2 who do not reach the new Criteria thresh hold for the 25/26 season
