just back from Worthing's first home game v Havant who were too good for an error-strewn Worthing side. Could be a long old season for Worthing, but hopefully a bit more cohesion will develop as season goes on

Pretty farcical at hooks lane yesterday  when we emerged from the tunnel in our usual blue and white hooped shirts and Westcombe  Park emerged in practically the same shirts apart from being light pink instead of white hoops and  exactly the same shorts and socks !!!!!
When players started passing to the opposition we thought surely the game would stop and the ref would force a change. especially  when we were in with superb chances twice near the westcombe park try line only for the final pass to go to an opposing player !!
So when the ref stopped the game  and had a discussion with both benches i thought sense had prevailed ....but NO!!  the first half was played out between two teams not knowing who was who 🤦🏼‍♂️
We ended up changing into our away kit for the second half  and at the end of the day in such a close game those two chances were very costly

Some years ago this happened at Worthing, Raiders in blue and gold as usual, Henley in dark green and gold - farcical, both teams changed at half time. Also recall Dorking, 1st year at N2 level, playing at Redruth having to turn shirtsvinside out and pen on numbers as they travelled with red shirts - same as Redruth.

I would have thought one of the referee's first duties would be to check the shirts of each team.

Apparantly  he did check before the game and crazily deemed the kits to be OK ! but good god it was so obvious as soon as both teams came out of the tunnel there was gonna be a problem.
I also believe that the laws were changed recently  to put the onus on the away team to bring a kit that doesn't clash as it used to be the home teams responsibility ?

At Redruth you are so correct. After turning shirts inside out as described the game was played in such
muddy conditions it was virtually impossible to identify any player or his position. #FranCotton.

You are correct Havant Tony - At Level4 and above it is the responsibility of the AWAY team to change kit when there is a colour clash. Some referees are very thorough and ask for a pic of both clubs kit once they are allocated the game and will then tell the away team that they will be required to change. Some refs leave it until match day by which time it is usually too late!

Interesting to read TRP match report for Bury / Colchester being referred to as 'Suffolk derby". I could have sworn Colchester was in Essex WinkWink

Seems the match reporter needs an atlas!!

5 games in, what are people’s thoughts on the league this year? TJ’s strong, although taken all the way by Guernsey, could Guernsey mount a challenge? Barnes & Dorking look like they’ve picked up where they left. BSE & Henley have flattered so far, BSE we’re getting talked up ahead of the season too.

At the other end, Colchester look competitive without winning, Worthing and Sevenoaks look like they’ve got long seasons ahead, at least Oaks scored a few points last week.

Have enjoyed the coverage from National League weekly shows this season.

From a Barnes perspective it is such a new squad with so many retirements last season, the backs in particular look like an under 22’s side ! The imminent games against Guernsey this weekend, then TJs after that will quickly evaluate where we are I think, I think the top four do look like TJ’s, Dorking, Barnes and Guernsey.

Westcombe Pk seemed to have moved up through the gears this season, whilst Oaks, Henley and Worthing appear to have gone backwards since last season, and like Wimbledon last season, new comers Colchester and Quins can have good periods in each game, the question will be can they produce the goods for long enough to win a game and how deep are their squads when injuries take their toll. The other new comer Havant appear to have what it takes to stay in this tough league.

The mid-table three of OAs, Bury and Canterbury seem to be steady as they go…

The next couple of weeks will reveal a lot I suspect!

fancied Worthing's chances today at home to Henley, but reality was somewhat different as they were completely outplayed. Fear the dreaded drop this year as this was a poor performance today with too many errors. Hopefully can turn it around

Certainly is looking bleak for Worthing. What’s happened there?

Wish I knew enough to have a view - all I can see is performances have gradually declined and have noticed attendances have started to suffer
