I was waiting at the school gate yesterday with my son, who is just entering reception. I spotted a guy with a Rugby World Cup 2015 cap on, and though 'there's one of my people' and struck up a conversation.

The guy asked me for a few local club names, as had only moved into the area recently, and wanted to see about joining a club, so I provided a few. I also told him that he should stop in at Ealing to watch a match as they play in the Championship. He clearly had never heard of them, so I mentioned that they had played Saracens 5 times last year. He also had never heard of Saracens.

This is a guy who clearly knows the international game, played rugby for years, and doesn't know who Saracens are. There's something fundamentally broken with the promotion of the club game in the UK. I just wonder what can be done. I was thinking that one easy change to make would be to have the England (or other national jersey) have the player's club badge or name captured somewhere. Any other thoughts?

In fairness, that's sort of enviable.
