The RFU are living up to their name of "Really Flipping Useless" again.
13:00 on Monday and Coventry Rugby Club has had to put out an announcement on their website and social media that they have not yet been informed by the RFU on what day or time the Championship Cup final will be played. It could be any time next weekend, from Friday evening through to Sunday evening. The supporters' club has already received bookings for two coachloads of supporters on the provisional plan that it will be Saturday, but this has not been confirmed. Ridiculous and incompetent performance from HQ yet again. Edited by OldNick - 16 May 2022 at 13:19 |

I am assuming that it is Saturday, and that was mentioned in the club house post-match, but nothing official from the Ealing camp yet.

Assumptions aren't great when you're booking travel and potentially accommodation, or preparing a team.

I saw a note on social media from Coventry, which quite rightly called the RFU to task for not informing them of this weekend's fixture details (they found out on social media). Another point was that they were worried about congestion into London for supporters. My suggeation would be to take the M40 and NOT the M1 to Ealing. The M1 takes you near the Stone-X and past Wembley and includea the Hangar Lane Gyratory of death. The M40 is a straight shot in from the west, and you are only off of it for about a mile to get to TFSC.

I was brought up in Wembley
. Trust me I know about traffic to it. Half the Wembley traffic comes in down the M40/A40, not the M1 / North circular. The other problem identified is a match at Twickenham which will bring in traffic on the M40, M4 & M3. Luckily the M3 traffic won't affect people coming to West Ealing from Coventry. Most Coventry supporters and the squad will be leaving directly after the match to get back to an end of season party in Coventry. Very few will be staying in or around West Ealing - outer west London hotels are largely full and those with rooms available are mainly charging over £200 pet night. Most of the exceptions are Heathrow hotels, where the rooms are cheaper but car parking is exorbitant. Ealing Trailfinders are not to blame for any of this. The fault is entirely with the RFU forcing this match to be scheduled against major local competition for road space and visitor accomodation at under a week's notice, including s match at HQ they are promoting themselves. To then only tell the home club, and leave the visiting club, who have to organise transport, to discover the date of the fixture is just incredibly rude and inept. They should be totally ashamed - once again the RFU have proved themselves totally unfit for purpose. Edited by OldNick - 17 May 2022 at 22:36 |

There've been plenty of problems with this comp, to be sure. Not sure why there was confusion about the date of the final - Sat 21 was communicated to clubs by RFU on 9 May. The transport arrangements don't sound great, altho' probably not as bad as the FA Cup semi-final farce when the whole rail network closed at Easter & clubs/supporters were travelling all the way down from Manc/Liv to London.
I'd like to think the one week (on average, down to 5 days in one case) interval between cup KO rounds won't be repeated. This was a factor of the whole Covid uncertainty, with the cup comp bolted on to the end of the season, seemingly to provide the option that it could be 'unbolted' if the winter wave of Covid had been any worse and more league matches had been postponed. I sense we were only a couple of weeks away from that happening, until the Covid numbers started to fall pretty sharply after the rest weekend in early January, meaning the league programme could be wrapped up by the start of April. Belated (I was away at the w/e) congrats to Cov on their semi-final win & end-of-season surge - one more game?!

Pretty sure Nick meant that the Cov end-of-season party is at the BPA, not London.

Radio wise, it can be heard on BBC CWR DAB frequency or via the BBC sport website.
