Luctonians quickly retaliated with an unconverted try by Tom Jones. Lions were soon back on the attack again with Johnny Murdoch going over for an unconverted try taking the score to 5-12. Half Time: Luctonians 11 Leicester Lions 24 At the start of the second half Lions quickly opened up the points gap even further when Luke Bouchier went over for a try, with Young adding the extras. Deft movement by Jamel Hamilton led to him scoring an unconverted try and reopening the score gap to 18-36 and Lions seemed to be moving further ahead again. Two quick tries by Luctonians, by Josh Nott and Charlie Grimes, with Silver adding the conversions, showed a gritty side to Luctonians play, closing the gap to 32-36. Lions soon upped their game with Aston Gradwick-Light going over for a try, with Young adding the extras and reopening the gap. In the closing minutes of the game Grimes went over for an unconverted try for Luctonians taking the score to 37-43. An excellent comeback by Luctonians, but not good enough to take the victory, with Lions running out deserved winners in free flowing open game. Full Time: Luctonians 37 Leicester Lions 43 An excellent competitive game, keeping the large crowd on its toes all the way from start to finish. A good all-round scoring performance by Lions – seven tries, seven try scorers. Following the game Lions were in second position in National League 2 West, with Luctonians in sixth position. Lions Head Coach, Gareth Collins, said: “Coming to Luctonians is always hard so absolutely delighted to get a bonus point win. We talked in the week about trying to contain their threats and managing the game, as well as the atmosphere, and were really happy with how we did that for most of the game. A little disappointed that we let them back in at the end of the game but credit to them for their fight back, they put us under some immense pressure and we had to dig deep to hold on.” Lions Chair, Ken Whitehead, said: “After Lions’ most impressive performance at the end of last season, it has been a splendid start to this season with four consecutive wins. Many congratulations to the team and the guidance given by Gareth.” Teams: 15-9, 1-8, Replacements |
