Our Club tried this quiet a few seasons ago, it was then found the amateur/social team were poaching any talented junior players away from 1st/2nd team development, the lure of league rugby with a less strenuous training regime. This caused a big rift within the Club and as a result they split.
Perhaps the split did us a favour as we now have former Juniors & Colts coming through the system and competing for 1st team places.

Ealing Trailfinders 1871

An update on where this newly formed team sit halfway through the season. Only the top half of the league play each other after Christmas . I understand this is to avoid high scores against the lower teams.

I have watched a few games home and away and I am amazed at the standard. Actonians for example play a great brand of rugby and have Buster White ( ex Wasps first team flanker ) as a forwards coach .

And their head coach is Buster's former Wasps and London Welsh teammate (and ex-Bedford) Florent Rossigneux.
Ealing looking very strong, and their second team are flying high in Merit Table 1, too.  But there are a lot of clubs struggling down there.  Staines have been in freefall for six or seven years, and we were hearing rumours on Saturday that up to three teams in this league or the one above will be dropping out completely by the end of this season.

This is where Rugby needs a helping hand . The RFU should assist these clubs in every way possible . They should assist from the bottom up and bolster these clubs not   with money but advice and coaches and what ever else it takes to keep these clubs functioning.
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff.
