Well done, Ampthill, for going to Ealing and scoring 4 tries. The lesson to learn here is to stop them from scoring 8. Meanwhile, do Ampthill now progress to the semi-finals because they lost on aggregate in the first round, then lost on aggregate in the quarter finals? I will have to check the rules of this wonderful and meaningful competition.

On a more serious note, congratulations to my team for a solid performance in their first full season in this league. Enjoy your summer off.
Always trying to stay bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

The Pirates match summed up the Blues season, so much promise but not quite seeing it through.

Can’t blame Maisey, he has played so well all season so to have one off day with the boot, it happens.

Stedman also dropped the ball with a walk in and overlap.

Probably good to exit on a decent crowd which was higher than a round 2,600 quoted, as away to Ealing and then probably another away game if we own; the money stops. The players can now enjoy the off season ready to go again.

The old maxim of forwards and defence winning matches whereas backs determine the points difference still rings true. Blues have lots of promise in the backs but forwards & defence are probably still important.
Dont kick it. Pick it up and GO FORWARD.

It clearly could have gone wither way at GR and Pirates had a bit of luck with Maisey having a bad day with his kicking. Carwyn Penny's touch line conversion (frist kick at goal he's had this season I reckon) proved the difference after fly half Robson went off injured and Penny stepped in to 10. The "prize" is an away game at Ealing!

Sharpy's Prog notes:
Welcome to Butts Park Arena for our return fixture of this two-legged cup quarter final
against Doncaster Knights.
We surprised the bookmaking fraternity by winning an exciting game at Castle Park last
week 22-35 and we look to protect that 13 point lead today, with progress to the semi-final
stage being decided by the aggregate score of the two legs. Both the semi-finals and final
will be single-leg affairs.
Donny have had a very strong league season, topping the table for some time before just
falling short and coming second to Ealing Trailfinders. Both clubs had applied for an au￾dit by the RFU regarding minimum standards, a necessary process if promotion to the
Premiership is to be allowed. The minimum standards require a ground capacity of 10,001
and with neither side achieving that capacity at the time of application, they were never￾theless comfortable that planning permission would be received in time to confirm their
intent, not to be able to accommodate that number immediately, but in a sensible, phased
manner.
It was disgraceful, in my opinion that neither application was granted, in each case the
minimum capacity criterion being quoted as the reason for denial. This from the RFU who
bleat on about us having to be financially self-sustainable; why then be forced to spend
millions on stadia that are never going to be filled? Ealing’s average gates are significant￾ly less than 1,000 and Doncaster’s around 2,000. At least four Premiership clubs regularly
fail to get 10,000 and this decision is no less than ring-fencing by another name. Note that
in the English Football League, which is rather better supported than our game, the mini￾mum standard for Premiership entry is a ground capacity of 5,000.
The weather forecast for today is promising and the Cov lads are raring to go: we look
forward to an entertaining spectacle. Let’s give them our wholehearted support and really
make some special noise today.
C’mon Cov!

Coventry now have a short recovery before their trip to Jersey on Friday, following a 62-53 win on aggregate.

There are certainly some coming, but the circumstances of this end-of-season comp aren’t ideal (to put it mildly) with only a week between games offering little time to plan. The short notice & fact that we’re into the early stages of the summer season means prices aren’t cheap, altho’ more creative types may have looked at cheaper air routes from, say, Liverpool or Manchester & widened their accommodation options thru’ use of AirBnB or similar. Hopefully there will be longer gaps between KO rounds next season, followed (again hopefully) by a better overall structure from 23/24 onwards…

And yet clubs were going 3 weeks without a game during the regular season - absolutely mental. 14 team league NOW! Not the 23/24 season, NOT after more consultation, NOT once finances are sorted out. NOW!!

A week Islander? Five days, as each of our clubs took a day out of that week. I don't blame either club for their decision. I do think the cup was ineptly structured - gaps should have been before the knock-out stages between progressing clubs, not during the early stage when teams were known in advance.

Add to that a Friday night game, and there in practice is a night over somewhere.

In my case I need to be in London early on Saturday afternoon. I looked, and couldn't find anything suitable and affordable.

Here's to a league match next season with sufficient lead time, and not in the Covid season.
